Miner Killed In Windrock Coal Shaft
Joe Ernest Roberts,56, was killed while working in the Windrock Mine at Windrock Coal and Coke Co. Tuesday night at about 8:30p.m.when several mining cars ran over him. Mine Superintendent, W.F. Hayden said that miner inspectors who investigated early Wednesday afternoon, said the cause of the accident could not be determined. Mr. Roberts, of Oliver Springs, had worked for the mining company for 36 years. He was a motorman in the mine at the time of his death. The mine closed Wednesday because of his death. He is survived by his wife, Hattie, a son, Charlie, two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Breeden and Mrs. Viola Dunlap of Oliver Springs, mother, Mrs. Parlee Roberts, Oliver Springs, three stepdaughters, Mrs. Myrtle Bolden, Mrs. Eula Price both of Oliver Springs, and Mrs. Beulah Jackson, Illinois, three sisters, Mrs. Nanie Worthington, Mrs. Lon Lively, Mrs. Mae Russell, Oliver Springs, 18 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2p.m.Friday at Indian Creek Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Ellis Patterson will officiate. Sharp is in charge
