Obituary of John Harve Mayes, 1971:
Carl Mayes’ father dies in Oregon. John Harve Mayes, 83, the father of Carl W. Mayes of 802 Moore St. in Clinton, died Nov. 18 in Ashland, Ore.
The elder Mayes was a native of Rogersville and served as a policeman in that city for more than 20 years. He spent the last seven years of his life in Ashland and Hawaii.
Mayes’ wife Ruth died 10 years ago.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Colbauch and Price Funeral Home chapel and burial in Highland Cemetery in Rogersville. The family will receive friends there Friday night.
Mayes leaves three other sons, Woodrow Mayes of Rogersville, Roy Mates of Medford, Ore. And Charles Mayes of Aloha, Ore.; a daughter, Mrs. Shelby Jean Spears of Columbus, Ga.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Fanny Flowers of Pensacola, Fla. and Mrs. Grace Little of Johnson City.
