Obituary of George F. Stair, 1971:
G. F. Stair, Magnet vet, dies Friday. George F. Stair, 75, of West wolf Valley Rd., Clinton Rt. 4, died Friday in Oak Ridge Hospital after being there for about a week. He sustained two strokes.
Stair was a farmer and was employed by Magnet Mills, Inc. for 41 years as a knitter.
He was the father of James F. Stair, former Clinton mayor and manager of Clinton radio station WYSH.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edith Bardill Stair; two other sons, George W. Stair of Westland, Mich. and Robert B. Stair of Monroe, Mich.; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lillian Wilson of Clinton, Mrs. Cleo Peters of Knoxville and Mrs. Nellie Younger of Arkansas; and two brothers, Jobe Stair of Lake City and Virgil Stair of Clinton.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Martin’s chapel with the Rev. J. H. Lowe of Knoxville and the Rev. Paul Cox of South Clinton officiating. Burial was in Tennessee Valley Memory Gardens with grandsons and nephews as pallbearers.
