Obituary of Elizabeth Hardwick Childs, 1972:
Lake City woman, Mrs. Childs, dies. Mrs. Elizabeth Hardwick Childs, 83, of the Lake City Convalescent and Nursing Home, died at midnight Sunday in Lake City Hospital. She had been seriously ill for more than a year and had suffered three strokes in that time.
Mrs. Childs had resided in the nursing home for the past two years. A native of Burnside, Ky., she came to Lake City 25 years ago from Virginia with her son, Herbert Childs.
She was married to the late John T. Childs. Mrs. Childs was a member of the Baptist Church in St. Charles, Va.
She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Marie Armstrong and Mrs. Juanita Parks, both of Lake City; five sons, Herbert and James E. Childs, both of Detroit; George Childs of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Earnest Childs of Houston, Tex. and Clarence Childs of Lake City; 34 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Cox Funeral Home chapel in Lake City with the Rev. Charles Johnson and the Rev. George Delozier officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
