Deed of Lavina Beach to William H. Hatmaker, 1879:
This indenture made and entered into this fifth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine between Lavina Beach of the County of Anderson and State of Tennessee of the one part and William H. Hatmaker of the County and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of twelve dollars to her in hand paid by the said party of the second part, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged [… ] a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Anderson and State of Tennessee, District No. 5 containing twenty acres more or less and bounded as follows. Beginning on a stake in her dowry line thence North 56 West to the Henderson and Company line thence with said line to a sprout pine in said line on the South bank of Coal Creek thence back with the Beach line to a conditional line made by Burton Beach and Jackson Burrass thence with said conditional line to the beginning corner of the dowry line thence with dowry line to the beginning with all and singular the hereditaments and appurtenances whatsoever the said tract of land belonging or appertaining and all right, title, interest, property claim or demand of them the said Laviny Beach her heirs and assigns forever of them and to the same in every part and parcel thereof either in law or equity to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with appurtenances to the said William H. Hatmaker his heirs and assigns forever against the lawful claims and demands of all and every person or persons whatsoever will warrant and forever defend by these presents whereof the said Laviny Beach has hereunto set her hand and affixed her seal the day and year above written. State of Tennessee, Anderson County} Personally appeared before me A. J. Queener, Clerk of the County Court of said county, J. C. Disney and Wm. H. Hawkins witnesses to the within deed who being first sworn, deposed said that they were present and saw Lavina Beach the within named bargainor make her mark to the within instrument and that she acknowledged that same to be her act and deed report the day it bears.
