Searching for information on the family William BOWERS, born in South
Carolina (about 1800). Married Frances BABCOCK, also born in South
Carolina (about 1805). Land records indicate they sold land in
Davidson County in the 1850's. As of right now, we have found them to
have 3 children. George William BOWERS, Jasper Newton BOWERS, and
Mary BOWERS. In 1850, Jasper BOWERS married Angeline ADCOCK at a
baptist church in Wilson County. They were married by a Rev. Hubbs.
Around 1862, the entire family relocated to Winnebago and Oconto
County, Wisconsin. If anyone has any information regarding my
family, ideas on where to search for vital or church records, please
let me know. Thanks.

James GARRISON, born ca. 1799 in VA., was an early settler on
Hickman's Creek in Smith County, TN. James died December 1857 in
that county. His children listed in the 1850 Smith County census
were: Mary,Tabitha Jane, Nancy and Elizabeth. His son, Wilson P.
GARRISON, born 13 March 1824, was married and living in the next
household. Apparently James's wife had died between 1840 and 1850.
Wilson P. was living in Wilson County in 1860, and I have a Trust
Deed, dated May 4, 1867, from Wilson County which states that Josiah
BAIRD was his grandfather. Does anyone know which of Josiah BAIRD's
daughters married James GARRISON of Smith County?

James Knox Polk SHELTON married a 16 year old girl, Byron POPE, in
Dec. of 1899 in Smith Co. TX. Divorce papers: Byron stated shortly
after their marriage James Virgil took her to Tenn. among strangers
(I assume Shelton's), he remained with her there for a while and he
became jealous of a cousin. He left her in TN penniless and without
means of support, among strangers. Information linking her to a

MANSFIELD, CARR, SANDERS, SULLIVAN - VA/TN -
Seeking relatives of John and Nancy (CARR) MANSFIELD and Thomas and
Anne (SANDERS) Carr. Tons of legal papers (deeds, wills,
guardianships, etc.) link these families. John (b. VA) left
Albemarle Co., VA for Wilson Co., TN circa 1807/09. Apparently, he’s
the John – incorrectly listed on the IGI as "Morfield" – who married
Nancy, daughter of Thomas and Anne Carr (who also moved to WCT).
Anne’s ancestry is perplexing, but Tom’s obit (“Central Gazette,”
Charlottesville, VA; 6 July 1821) indicates he’s the son of Gideon
Carr, Sr.; indeed, he’s mentioned in Gideon’s will. Tom was a
sergeant in the Revolution, 9th Virginia Regiment (under Col. David
Morgan).
John fathered Grasty, Granville, Giley, Nancy, and ostensibly
Garnett, my 3rd great-grandfather. All but Giley married in WCT;
Granville remained there. Garnett and Lydia (SULLIVAN) Mansfield
moved to LINCOLN Co. Grasty and Nancy (married Elias Edwards) ended
up in WEAKLEY and OBION counties. BTW, what became of Giley?

Their son Martin Henry Smith md 1856 in Logan Co. Ky and lived in
Simpson Co. Ky rest of his life. Nancy was dau of Isaac B. BELCHER
who also migrated to Logan and Butler Co. Ky (near county line) in
the 1850/ 1860 census records. I have reason to believe Thomas Smith
was Thomas Jr and died before 1850, and Martin Henry was with Thomas
