RISTINE, Charles Elliott, physician; born Abingdon, Va., Dec. 6, 1845; French and English descent; son of John C. and Susan (Elliott) RISTINE; father’s occupation, carriagemaker, merchant; educated University of Tenn. and University of Pa., graduating from the latter with degree of M. D. in 1870; married twice, first Alice PEACH, second Ella McKINNEY, 1880; member of Knox County Medical Society, East Tennessee Medical Society, State Medical Society, former President Knox Co. Medical Society; served as private in Confederate army; began his business career as a prescription druggist; former professor of Physiology University of Nashville, and professor gynecology in Tenn. Medical College; has contributed largely to medical literature; member of Methodist church, South; author of the “Ristine Operation” for repair of complete laceration of the female perineum first published “Journal of Obstetrics and Diseases of Women and Children” (New York) March, 1900.
