OVERTON, Jesse Maxwell, born Pulaski, Tenn., July 25, 1863; English descent; son of John and Harriet Virginia (Maxwell) OVERTON; father, farmer and planter; paternal grandparents Judge John and Mary McConnell (White) OVERTON, maternal grandparents Jesse and Martha Ravenscroft (Claiborne) MAXWELL; attended district schools and Vanderbilt University; graduated from Harvard College in 1886, B.A. degree; engaged in coal mining early in life; married Saidie G. WILLIAMS, November 10, 1891; at present is President of the Alabama Fuel and Iron Company, Director in Fourth National Bank, Nashville, Tenn.; member Scottish Rite, 32d degree Mason; Democrat; member Presbyterian Church.
