CLENDENNEN, Sarah Anne Reneau

Death came to Mrs. Sarah Anne Reneau CLENDENNEN April 17, 1940 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert OGLE, Knoxville, Tennessee. She was the wife of the late Rev. George W. CLENDENNEN who for many years was a beloved and honored minister in the Methodist Church, having been admitted into the Holston Conference in 1889.

Mrs. CLENDENNEN was converted at the age of thirteen years in Edens Chapel, Sevier County. From that time until her death at the age of eighty-five she was a faithful Christian.

She was married to the Rev. George W. CLENDENNEN on Dec. 24, 1870. To them were born eight children, three of whom preceded their mother to their heavenly home. She was a loyal companion to her husband, and a devoted mother to her children.

She had the unusual privilege of becoming grandmother to thirty-three grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

In the later years of her life, though feeble in health, she was often heard to say, “It is good to wait upon the Lord.”

In her illness and suffering she shouted praises to the Lord, gave encouragement to the ministers and was enthusiastic concerning the church and the Kingdom of God.

Truly it could be said of her, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

She was laid to rest by the side of her beloved husband in Wildwood Cemetery amid a carpet of beautiful flowers. The funeral was conducted by Rev. O.R. TARWATER, Rev. Joe GREEN and Rev. Perry RULE at Logan’s Chapel.
