They had 8 children: Ella Mae, Bessie Irene (married Robert Pickens MILLARD and was born 20 Aug 1903), Laura (married J B TALLENT), Daisy, Martha, Kimbro, Hobert, and Tyler. I'm not sure if he was born in Greeneville or not. Our history is sketchy on him. He was a Mason. He died around 1935 or 1936. He was a farmer and owned a general mercantile. Other cities he may have lived in or owned a house are Athens, Tennessee or Morristown, Tennessee. I'm told he was from a prominent family in either Greeneville or Morristown. Thanks for any help. My E-mail address has changed and I've learned more, therefore I am reposting my information and request for help. With a lot of help from web friends, I have located my grandfather, John S. HENRY, his brother, Jasper and their father, William on the 1880 Census of Putnam County. The name I was given for William's father is Ligeard HENRY, who married Nancy THOMAS. His son William b. 1850, married Frances WATSON b. 1844. John S HENRY married Florence MARTIN, (in the 1880s). She was the sister of Julius, Spurgeon, "Doc", Ett, W. Green, Christopher Columbus, Nancy and John Gordon MARTIN. They were children of Julius Caesar MARTIN and Fannie WATSON. >From family stories, I know they lived in several counties of East-Middle Tennessee. John S. and Florence moved to Nashville in the early 1900's and lived on Main Street, where my grandmother ran a tourist home. I would appreciate any information on any of these names.

HIGGENBOTHAM, COLLIER, FERGUSON

Family legend: Two white brothers (either HIGGINBOTHAM'S or COLLIER'S) married two Cherokee sister's to prevent them from being forced on the Trail of Tears in Warren Co. TN. These ancestors, from what I can figure, were probably Samuel E. HIGGINBOTHAM (born 4-1811) who married Margaret FERGUSON (born approx, 1817-and one of the Cherokee sisters ??). They are listed in the 1850 census with children: Mary, John, Aaron, Andrew, Francis, and Sarah. Francis grew up and married Robert COLLIER. They are burried in OK. Their son, Claude was my ggf. His daughter, Seleta, (my gm) told me this story. Margaret's nickname was probably Peggy...because Papa (Claude) used to say, "You are as brown as my Indian gm, Peggy". Can anyone help validate this family story? I need to know which clan my ggg-gm belonged to. Thanks!
