STREET, WILKINSON, SAMMONS

Byrd [Bird] STREET and his second wife, Elizabeth "Betsey" SAMMONS STREET are believed to be buried in Warren County. Bird died in 1855, Betsey in 1872. Betsey's father, John WILKINSON also lived in Warren County for awhile. We believe Bird's daughters by his first marriage remained in Warren County and Bird and Betsey visited them frequently. Can anyone help me with information on these families, or possibly the cemetery where they might be buried? Thanks.

Editors note: The Street family cemetery was located on the farm of Bird Street, in southwest Warren County, on the east side of what is now called Jacksboro Road. This cemetery is mentioned in McMinnville at a Milestone, 1810 ~ 1960, by Walter Womack, {page 206}. Womack calls this little graveyard, "the first Caney Branch Cemetery. . . . on a farm now owned by Redden Bonner . . ." Others described the cemetery as being on a small knoll with Cedar trees. Unfortunately, this graveyard has been destroyed. It has seen many years of service as a pig yard. The pigs simply wore down the stones until there was nothing identifiable remaining. Tradition says that Bird Street, his second wife, a daughter in/law, and others were buried there. F S
