A 39-year-old truck operator was fatally injured late Sunday afternoon when a fellow Van Buren countian is alleged to have fired a double-barrel shotgun blast into his mid-section in an altercation reported to have taken place near a club, located on McMinnville highway, ½ mile from Spencer. C.C. (Chris) Banker, of Spencer, died of wounds received in the shooting which was reported to have occurred about 5 o’clock Sunday afternoon. A Nashville newspaper quoted police Chief Claude Baker, of Spencer, as stating that Banker was shot by a man identified as Floyd Sullivan, after an argument between the two men. It was reported that Sullivan fired both barrels of a double barrel shotgun at Banker and that the slain man fired back after he had been shot. Funeral services for Banker were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at his Spencer home. Rev. Simmons officiated and burial took place in McElroy cemetery under the direction of High’s.
