STALCUP CEMETERY

 
 
 
 

          The  Stalcup Cemetery is located  near the intersection of Hwy 25E and Hwy 10 on the Carthage Road.  Of particular interest is the Stalcup Memorial Monument  erected in 1972.  Adjacent to the white section is a large  Afro-American cemetery.  There are several burials marked by fieldstones or no markers at all.  This cemetery is active.    36-22-87N  86-06-90W

WILLIAM STALCUP, SR. WAS DESCENDANT OF JOHAN ANDERSON STALKOFTA D. 1686, SWEDISH IMMIGRANT TO DELAWARE 1641.   PIETTER STALLCOP D. 1709.  JOHN STALCOP 1692-1751.  PETER STALCOP 1712-1786.  HE MARRIED AT WILMINGTON, 1762, IN OLD SWEDECHURCH, BUILT ON STALCOP LAND 1698.  MIGRATED TO ORANGE CO. N.C. 1769, RECEIVED THIS 357 ACRE GRANT, STALCUP'S HILL IN 1787.  HIS SONS: PETER, JOHN-TO ORANGE CO.,  IND., 1818 -1820, ELI, ISSAC TO GREENCO., IND., 1818 - 1820, SAMUEL, WILLIAM, JR.
DAUGHTERS: CATY MARTIN,PEGGY OSBORN.
