ARNOLD, ANNIE GAYNELLE SNEAD Annie Gaynelle Snead Arnold, age 80, of 1943 Norway Street, Bristol, VA, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at her residence. Mrs. Arnold was a native of Lebanon, VA, but had lived in Bristol for the past 36 years, and was the daughter of the late Paul and Minnie Hawkins Snead. She was a homemaker and seamstress, and a former employee of Big Jack Manufacturing Company and of the Baptist faith. Surviving are her husband: Morris James Arnold, Bristol Virginia; 1 son: Billy Sharrett, Bristol, VA; special son: Morris Arnold Jr., Cummings, Georgia; special daughter: Betty Wampler, Bristol, VA; special daughter: Mary Durand, Knoxville, TN; 2 brothers: John Snead of Blountville, TN, and Cecil Snead, Spartanburg, SC; 2 sisters: Marie Jessie, Lebanon, Virginia, and Virginia Mitchell, Kingsport, TN; 8 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at East Hill Cemetery with Rev. Les Ketron officiating. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery. She was a homemaker and the daughter of the late James and Cora Nelson. She was born in Washington County, VA leaving Bristol in 1958 moving to Gambrills, MD, and lived in Morristown, TN, for the past 2 years. BELLAMY, MARY EMILY SMITH BRISTOL -- Mary Emily Smith Bellamy, 58, Windsor Avenue, died early Friday morning (Oct. 20, 2000) at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born in Hawkins County (Rogersville), she grew up in Sullivan County and attended Ketron High School. She was retired from the University of Virginia Medical Center, where she was employed as a nursing technician for over 28 years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Emma Price Smith. Surviving are her husband, John W. Bellamy of the home; her father, Claude E. Smith, Kingsport; one sister, Mrs. James (Peggy Smith) Francisco, Kingsport; one brother, Robert A. BOLLING, EDWARD L. BIG STONE GAP, VA -- Edward L. Bolling, 70, died Oct. 19, 2000, in Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap. He was a member of Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church and a charter member of Big Stone Gap Rescue Squad. He retired from Pet Dairy Inc., as a production superintendent and was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II, having served in the European Theater. He lived most of his life in Wise County. Surviving are his wife, Clara Bolling of the home; sons, James E. Bolling, Big Stone Gap and Danny W. Bolling, Lexington, KY; daughter, Cheryl B. BOWMAN, ALVAH M. BLOUNTVILLE -- Alvah M. Bowman, 83, Blountville, entered into rest unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at his residence. Born in Crane's Nest, VA, he was a son of the late Samuel S. and Sarah Cox Bowman. He was a retired security guard. He was of the Episcopal faith. He was a decorated U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a loving father. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary E. Rodefer; three brothers, Samuel S. Bowman, Clarence Bowman and Oliver Bowman. Surviving are his daughter, Wickie Bowman, Pasadena, CA; five grandchildren,; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. BROWDER, JESSIE MAE RIGSBY Jessie Mae Rigsby Browder, 72, 169 Browder Road, Gray, TN, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at 4:45 p.m. after a long illness. Born in Sullivan County, she had lived in the Gray area most of her life. Mrs. Browder was a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church, Johnson City, TN, a member of the Senior Saints Sunday School Class, and did floral landscaping for the church for the last four years. She leaves behind a wonderful legacy through her devotion to her family and friends and her testimony of her faith in God. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Myrtle Caldwell Rigsby; one sister, Amy Rigsby; and one brother, Johnny Melvin Rigsby. Surviving are her loving husband of 49 years, 4 months, Major H. CARR, MACK HAYNES Mack Haynes Carr age 73 a long life resident of Bristol, TN died Sunday, October 1, 2000 at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mr. Carr was the owner/partner of Carr Brothers Construction Company and a member of the Blountville Christian Church. He served in the Armed Forces from October 24, 1950 until October 24, 1952. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Edward Carr and Ina Gay Wolfe Carr, his sister Anna Belle Houser and his brothers Emory Carr, William (Bill) Carr and Rev. Aulden Carr. She was a past president of the Virginia Intermont College Alumni Association, was awarded "life membership" in the Tennessee Parent and Teacher Association, a life membership in Women of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., past president of the Women of the Church at both First Presbyterian Church in Bristol Tennessee, and Winter Park, FL., past president and member of the Bristol Music Club, member of the Blue Stocking Club and past president of the Women's History Club. She was a retired retail buyer and a former employee of H.P. King Co. Survivors include one son, Rev. Samuel M. HARR, EARL CLARENCE DELANEY BLOUNTVILLE -- Earl Clarence Harr, 96, went to be with the Lord at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000 at his residence after a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of the farm on which he was born in Sullivan County, TN, he was the son of the late Elkanah Delaney and Nancy Ann Martha Humphreys Harr. He was the only known surviving son of a Confederate soldier in Sullivan County. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Company in Kingsport after 25 years of service in 1967. He was also a farmer. He was a member of Blountville Presbyterian Church for many years and late in life joined Emory Methodist Church. His first wife of 44 years, Cynthia Ella Clark Harr, his second wife, Stella Clark Eads Harr, and his third wife, Susan Barr Clayman Harr, preceded him in death. Also preceding him was a grandson, Michael Edwin Harr, who died in Vietnam, and two infant granddaughters. Surviving are six sons and wives, Clarence (C.D.) and Dorothy Harr, Herman and Betty Harr, Wayne and Vivian Harr, and Jerry and Rebecca Harr, all of Blountville, Willard and Jerri Harr of Centerville, MD, and Dale and Virginia Harr of Kingsport; three daughters and husbands, Lucille and Grover Winegar, Sue and Fred Wagner, Ann and Charles Mays, all of Blountville; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. JONES, WILLIAM B. (BILL" KINGSPORT, TN-- William B. (Bill) Jones, age 84, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at his residence. Bill was born in Appalachia, Virginia, on Oct. 13, 1916, to the late William Harrison and Artie Collins Jones. He lived in Blackwater, Virginia, and moved to the Kingsport area in the early forties. Bill was retired from the J. P. Stevens Corp. He was an avid fisherman and out doors man. He was a loving, devoted and sincere husband, father and papaw. She was preceded in death by her parents, James W. Booher and Lucy Carico Booher; four sisters, Eula Fulkerson, Bonnie Weaver, Hazel Dixon and Juanita Williams; and a brother, Howard "Bud" Booher. She is survived by three daughters, Patty Patrick, Bristol, Linda Hall, Blountville, and Juanita van der Merwe, Blountville; two sons, Neil Morton, Jr., Witchita, Kan., and Anthony Morton, Knoxville; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Glenna was known for her prowess on the basketball court at Blountville High School. She served her country during World War II by enlisting in the U.S. Army (Women's Army Corps) and attended Tri-State College in Angola, IN, before raising her family. MYERS, JEAN WOLFE Jean Wolfe Myers, 77, of Bluff City, TN, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at her home. She was born in Tulsa, OK, a daughter of the late Mabel Roberts Wolfe and Norville Wolfe, and had lived in Sullivan County for over 50 years. She was the loving wife of Everett Lee Myers, who died in 1996, and was a member of Addilynn Memorial United Methodist Church. Following 23 years as a nurse with the Sullivan County Health Department, she retired in 1988. She was a volunteer with the Bristol Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a former member of McIver Memorial Presbyterian Church, a former treasurer of District 5 of the Tennessee Nurses' Association, and a former member and officer of the Bristol Virginia Chapter No. 28, Order of Eastern Star. She was the loving mother of her daughter, Barbara Sesney, of Kingsport; and her two sons, Jim Myers of Blountville and Duane Myers of Bluff City; the sister of three brothers, Robert Wolfe and Charles Wolfe of Ohio, and Don Wolfe of Oklahoma; grandmother of four; great-grandmother of two; and aunt of several nieces and nephews. Son of the late James A. and Minnie A. Stone Riley Sr., he was a retired sergeant major with the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and was a prisoner of war. Before retiring from service with 26 years of service, he was an Army recruiter in Kingsport, Johnson City and Bristol. He was a member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, FL. He was a graduate of McKeesport High School, McKeesport, PA, and Johnson Bible College, Knoxville, TN. Immediately after World War II, he was a missionary to Japan. STATZER, ISAAC M. Rev. Isaac M. Statzer, 95, of Leisure Park Towers, Bristol, VA, died Sunday, October 1, 2000 in Bristol Nursing Home. He was a native of Washington County, VA. He was ordained to the ministry in Bristol, VA in 1932. He was an evangelistic singer from 1932-1943. In 1943 he started a Bible Class in his home. From this class the Grace Baptist Church in Middletown, OH was started. Since then he has pastured churches in Ohio, Virginia, California, Arizona, Kansas and Colorado. He retired 13 years ago and became a member of Fellowship Chapel in Bristol where he had taught Thursday Night Bible Study. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Elsie Pearl Barker Statzer; a son, Jerald Lee Statzer; and a daughter, Judith Leah Tucker. Survivors include three daughters: Jean Dye, of Columbus, OH, Barbara Graham, of Florence, Colorado, and Mary M. Jones, of Emory, TX; three sons: Johnathan E. Statzer, of Bristol, VA, the Rev. STORY, ANGELA HUNIGAN Angela Hunigan Story, 26, of Friendship, TN, died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 17, 2000, from injuries received in an automobile accident on US Highway 321 at Dunlap Road near Knoxville. She was traveling to work with her two children, Kaleb Austin Story, 2, and Sarah Marissa Jean Story, 1, who escaped with minor injuries. Sarah was treated at Blount County Hospital and released. Kaleb was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where Angie's husband and Kaleb's father, David Scott Story, was on duty as a surgical technician at the time of the accident. Angie was born in Bristol Tennessee, and was a 1992 graduate of Bristol Tennessee High School. She received a degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee in 1998 and was employed as Assistant Child Care Director at LaPetite Academy in Knoxville. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bristol. Her husband, David, is formerly of Gray, TN, and was a graduate of Daniel Boone High School and the Tennessee Technology Center of Memphis. Sarah and Kaleb are Angie's and David's only children.

WITT, GARY D. Gary D. Witt, age 54, of 43 King St., Bristol, VA, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at his home. Born in Bristol, TN, a son of the late George Witt Jr. and Gladys Witt Jones, he lived in Baltimore, MD, before moving to Bristol 12 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving four terms during the Vietnam War where he earned the Purple Heart for valor. Survivors include: wife Elizabeth Faye Witt; five daughters, Kerry Akers, Terry Witt, Sherry Witt, Mary Hicks and Tanya Helbert; mother-in-law Mildred Snow; sister Betty Roark; two brothers, Billy Witt and Grady Witt of Deland, FL; three granddaughters, Carah Akers, Hillary Akers and Tatasha Helbert; two grandsons, Dustin Hicks and Christopher Helbert; cousins, Ann Brown of Charlotte, NC, and Judy Jones of Bristol, TN; several nieces and nephews; sons-in-law Ernie Hicks and Gerald Helbert. WITT, GARY D. A memorial service for Mr. Gary D. Witt will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at 3 p.m. in the Full Gospel Fellowship Church. WORLEY, BRIAN ALLEN Brian Allen Worley, age 33, of 100 Neal Drive, Bristol, TN, died on Oct. 21, 2000, at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and was the son of Allen and Doris Worley. He was a 1985 graduate of Tennessee High School, a 1997 graduate of Northeast State Technical School and was employed by Rick Hill Imports, where he worked as an auto technician. He attended Avoca Christian Church. Surviving, besides his parents are: brother, David Worley of Bristol, TN; maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Faire and Emory Jones; paternal grandmother, Lizzie Worley; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. WYATT, CECIL D. Cecil D. Wyatt, age 82, of 307 Summerwood Dr., Bristol, TN, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, in the Wellmont Hospice House. Son of the late Trigg and Ella Fleenor Wyatt, he was a lifelong resident of Bristol, was owner and operator of Cecil's Market for over 30 years and he was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include: wife of 63 years, Virginia Blevins Wyatt; two daughters, Mrs. Allen (Patsy) Booher, Bluff City, TN, and Mrs. Terry (Sue) Wilson, Bluff City, TN; brother: Herbert P. WYSOR, LAKI HUGHES "MiMi" Lakie Hughes "MiMi" Wysor, 84, of Bristol, Tennessee, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at NHC Healthcare of Bristol after an extended illness. She was a native of Swords Creek, Russell County, Virginia, and a daughter of the late Samuel and Ida Loretta Evans Hughes. She moved to Bristol with her husband in 1950 and was retired from Parks-Belk Department Store after 39 years of service in the children's department. Mrs. Wysor was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Stuart Wysor, who was also formerly of Swords Creek, Russell County; three sisters: Retha Wyatt, Ruth Williams and Peggy Steele; and four brothers: Sam Hughes, Jim Hughes, Hoover Hughes and Paul Hughes. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: Dan and Faye Wysor of Bristol, Tennessee; three sisters: Gertrude McGlothlin of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Mrs. Harold (Jean) Cole of Akron, OH, and Mrs. George (Virginia) Colvard of Bristol, TN; one granddaughter: Stephanie Wysor; one grandson and granddaughter-in-law: Kevin and Tracie Wysor; one great-granddaughter: Emma Grace Wysor; three sisters-in-law: Edna, Ida and Charlotte Hughes, all of Swords Creek, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
