AMATO, RUTH BLEVINS Ruth Blevins Amato, 90, of 510 Godsey Road, Bristol, TN, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House. She was born in Bristol and lived most of her adult life in New York. She was the widow of William Amato. Surviving are a daughter, Evelyn La Croix of Bristol TN; a brother, Jay Blevins of Bristol TN a sister, Hattie Hornsby of Orangeburg, SC; a grandson, Steven M. La Croix of Plano, TX; three granddaughters, Kate La Croix, Carrie La Croix and Michelle La Croix, all of Planto; three nieces; and three nephews. Funeral services will be private. BALL, JAMES WILLIAM James William Ball, 80, of 2624 Anderson St., Bristol, TN, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Meadowview and had lived in the Bristol area since 1957. He was a plumber, a pipefitter and a member of the Local Union 538. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the widower of Dorothy H. Ball. Surviving are three daughters, Betty Ball, Mrs. Kenneth (Joyce) Ratliff and Martha Hinkle, all of Bristol TN; a son, James William Ball Jr. of Hendersonville, NC; three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Marie) Cannon and Mrs. Ed (Eleanor) Poston, both of Bristol TN and Mrs. Joe (Margaret) Carter of Abingdon; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Glenwood Cemetery by Weaver Funeral Home. The Rev. Lester MacKinnon will officiate. Military honors will be by VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975. Mr. Ball was also preceded in death by a brother, John C. Ball; and a sister, Kathleen Ball. BLAIR, STANLEY EVERETTE BLOUNTVILLE - Stanley Everette Blair, 81, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home. He was born in Hiltons in Scott County, VA, a son of the late John W. Blair and Beulah McMurray Blair. He had lived in Sullivan County most of his adult life. He was of the Baptist faith. He retired from Mason Dixon Freight Lines as a truck driver, after 35 years of service, and was also a farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Charles DeWitt Byrd VFW Post 3382 and the widower of Elizabeth Tate Blair. Surviving are his wife, Wanda Houser Blair; a daughter, Becky J. Blair of Blountville; two sons, Terry A. Blair and Stewart S. Blair, both of Blountville; a stepson, Roy Wayne Houser of Abingdon; a sister, Cornelia A. Rodefer of Blountville; two brothers, Paul Blair and James H. Blair, both of Blountville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; a step-great-granddaughter; a step-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Blair was also preceded in death by three brothers, Edley R. Blair, Jasper Blair and Claude Blair. BLEVINS, BLANCHE SIMERLY Blanche Simerly Blevins, 79, of 922 Tennessee Ave., Bristol, TN, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at her home. She was born in Sullivan County, a daughter of the late John F. Simerly and Lillie M. Beeler Simerly. She had lived her entire life in the Bristol area and was a former employee of Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church and the widow of Leonard L. Blevins. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ann Burdine of Blountville and Brenda Marlene Smalling of Bluff City; two sons, Ronald Lee Blevins of Kingsport and Philip Michael Blevins of Blountville; a sister, Marjorie Whitson of Greenfield, IN; a brother, Ray Simerly of Bristol TN; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at noon in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. David Burton will officiate. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. BRANSON, BESSIE E. RURAL RETREAT, VA -- Bessie E. Branson, 77, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at her home. She was born in Bristol TN and lived in Bristol before moving to Rural Retreat in 1961. She was a former employee of Gordon Garment and Rural Retreat Garment Factory and attended the Church of God in Wytheville, where she taught Sunday school and was the pianist. Surviving are her husband of 61 years John H. Branson; a daughter, Mary F. Leonard of Bristol VA; a son, Richard Branson of Pulaski; two sisters, Letitia Branson of Salinas, CA, and Blanche Shores of Bristol TN; three brothers, Willie O'Neal of Bristol VA and Donald O'Neal and Howard O'Neal, both of Bristol TN; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was a truck driver with Overnite Transportation and was of the Baptist faith. She was born in North Wilkesboro, NC, a daughter of the late Lewis and Willie Johnston Franklin. She had lived in Bristol since she was a young girl, was a graduate of Tennessee High School and the widow of S. Jack Musick. She was a member of Fellowship Class of State Street United Methodist Church, where she had worshipped for almost 69 years. Surviving are two sons, L. Wayne Musick of Bristol Tennessee and Kerry A. Musick of Johnson City; a brother, Donald Franklin of Johnson City; four grandchildren, Alan Eugene Musick, Eric Wayne Musick, Tommye Jacquelynn "T.J." In 1938, he founded Strong-Robinette Bag Co. of Bristol, which he operated as president until it was sold to Stone Container Corp. in 1985. He coached Little League baseball in Bristol, was a life member of the Elks Lodge and the Civitan Club and a long-time member of the Country Club of Bristol. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church and served on the Board of the former Virginia National Bank. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Catherine Lynch Robinette; two daughters, Anne R. She was the widow of Evins Foster Sturgill. Surviving are two sons, Chester Sturgill of Bluff City and Burnice L. Sturgill of Cottage Grove, Minn.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Sturgill was also preceded in death by two sisters; and three brothers.
