AYERS, KATE ELIZABETH WHITTAKER Kate Elizabeth Whittaker Ayers, 85, of Bristol Virginia, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a native of the Wallace Community in Washington County, VA, and had lived the past 55 years in Bristol. She retired from the Bristol Virginia School System, where she was employed at Washington & Lee School. She was a member of Bradley Street Baptist Church, where she was active in Sunday school and the Women's Missionary Union. She was the widow of William F. Ayers. BACHMAN, HARRY W. KINGSPORT -- Harry W. Bachman, 84, of 3304 South Wilcox Drive, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, in Holston Valley Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and attended Tusculum College. Mr. Bachman was employed with Tennessee Eastman Company for many years, retiring in 1976. He was a life member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church and an active member of the Conkin Sunday School Class. BOWERS, MARION J. "TENNESSEE" MONTICELLO, IN -- Marion J. "Tennessee" Bowers, 73, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, in St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was a native of Bristol Tennessee, moving to Monticello in 1966. He was employed with RCA for several years and retired from Jordan Manufacturing in 1944, after eight years of service. He was U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Barbara J. BRIGHT, BRUCE BLOUNTVILLE -- Bruce Bright, 75, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in Holston Valley Hospital. He was a native of Hiltons and had been a resident of Blountville for the past 41 years. Mr. Bright retired from Tennessee Eastman Company in 1969, after 26 years of service. He was employed in the Organic Chemicals Department. CARROLL, RICHARD PAIGE Sr. NORTH REDINGTON BEACH, FL -- Richard Paige Carroll Sr., 68, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in Bay Pines VA Hospital. He was a native of Bristol Tennessee and moved to North Redington Beach in 1970 from Panama City, FL He was retired from the U.S. Air Force as an air traffic controller, and was a veteran of the Korea and Vietnam wars. He was past commander chaplain of VFW 4250, Madeira Beach, Fla., American Legion 273, Maderia Beach, Military Order of The Cootie 1939 and graduate of St. Petersburg Junior College. DINGUS, RALPH J. The Rev. Ralph J. Dingus, 74, of Bristol Tennessee, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home. He was a native of Fort Blackmore, Va., a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and was ordained into the Nazarene Church ministry in 1955, serving in various ministerial duties. His congregations included Churches of the Nazarene in Greenville, Kingsport and Bristol Tennessee. The Rev. Dingus was very active in the building and expansion of churches, congregations and evangelical programs in all of his church callings. MASSENGILL, DAVID WAUGH David Waugh Massengill, 76, of 220 Greenway Road, Bristol, TN, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Bristol, with the exception of the time he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and in college. He was a graduate of Bristol Tennessee High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was president of the Junior Class and the Pharmacy School Student Body. During a long career in pharmaceuticals, he served in various management capacities with the former S. E. Massengill Company and its successors. He was a member of numerous national and state pharmaceutical organizations. He was active in many local civic and religious endeavors, including membership in State Street United Methodist Church, the Kiwanis Club of Bristol and served as a Director, Vice-President and President of the Bristol Jaycees. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna B. Massengill. Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Cathy M. Souder, Nashville, and Laura M. Buehler, Jackson, TN;. two sons, David W. ROSENBALM, MARY ELIZABETH DALE ANDERSON Mary Elizabeth Dale Anderson Rosenbalm, 60, of 218 Beech St., Bristol, VA, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Sneedville, TN., moved to Abingdon in 1943, and moved to Bristol in 1945. She was a former employee of Bristol's Paramount, Cameo and Columbia theaters. She was a well-known country music singer, appearing on Farm & Fun Time and Tennessee Hayride in the 1950s. In 1960 she recorded "Before This Day Ends" that became a Top Ten hit. She appeared on Hee Haw and Ernest Tubb's Midnight Jamboree in the early 1970s. She was a member of Campbell's Chapel Baptist Church.
