ARNOLD, RICHARD P. Richard P. Arnold, 55, of 154 Independence Drive, Bristol, VA, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Bristol Virginia, a 1962 graduate of Holston Valley High School and had lived in Elkhart, IN, before moving back to Bristol. He was a sales representative with Reynolds Lighting Company, a member of Long Airdox Bass Club and an avid golfer and fisherman. He was a member of State Street United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn J. Ellis Arnold; one daughter, Jennifer Lynn Arnold, Bristol VA; one son, Chris R. Arnold, Bristol TN; his father, Clifford H. BELCHER, JAMES AUDNEY James Audney Belcher, 56, of Bristol TN, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, at his home. He was a native of Lebanon and had lived in Bristol most of his life. BEVERLY, WILLIAM R. William R. "Bill" Beverly Jr., 67, of 105 Carson Lane, Bristol, TN, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Wise, and had lived in the Bristol area for the past 46 years. He was well known for his work with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Leader for 33 years, was a long-standing member of the Bristol Civitan Club with 24 years of service, and was a member of the First Baptist Church. BLACKWELL, IRENE BRISTOL, TN -Irene Blackwell, 90, of Bristol, TN, and formerly from Bluefield, VA, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, in an Abingdon, VA, hospital. She was born in Bluefield and was a daughter of the late Frank Blackwell and Alice Farris Blackwell. She was a member of the Wrights Valley United Methodist Church and was a former employee of the Bluefield Casket Co. in Bluefield, VA. She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters. Survivors include two nieces, Louise Holbrook of Bristol, TN, and Francis Osborne of Bluefield, VA; three great-nieces, Phyllis McFarland of Bristol, TN, Wanda Moore of Inkster, MI, and Susie Romans of Bluefield; three great-nephews, Ronnie Holbrook of Bluefield, VA, Wayne Holbrook of Denton, NC, and Richard Osborne of Bluefield; several great-great nieces and nephews. BOWLING, NELLE GRACE JONES TAZEWELL, VA - Nelle Grace Bowling, 78, of Tazewell, VA, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at her home. Born Feb. 22, 1920, at Gratton, VA, she was a daughter of the late Charles Gratton Jones Sr. and Leola Mae Burton Jones. She was a member of the Tazewell Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Survivors include her husband, Thomas E. BURKE, J. C. J.C. Burke, 64, of 1225 Piedmont Avenue, Bristol, VA, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. BURTON, JAMES James "Jimmy" Burton, 80, of 46 Hylton Ave., died Saturday morning, Aug. 8, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 22, 1917, in Halifax County, he was the son of Benjamin A. Burton and Vergie Henderson Burton. He was married to Virginia Clark Burton, who survives him. He spent most of his life in Danville, where he was employed by Dan River Inc. as a supervisor. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Tommy L. Burton of Brosville and Michael C. Burton of Cascade; one daughter, Janice B. JAMISON, KING A. King A. Jamison, M. D., 82, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born on January 23, 1922, at McComas, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Elvie Sisson Wimmer. She had been a resident of Rt. 3, Bluefield, for 50 years and was of the Methodist faith. She was a homemaker. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one half-brother, Darrell Sisson. WHISENHUNT, INA RAY SCALF PINEY FLATS -- Ina Ray Scalf Whisenhunt, 74, of 767 Austin Springs Road, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Knoxville, had lived most of her life in Johnson City, and retired from employment as a nurse with Johnson City Memorial Hospital. She was a charter member of Tri-Cities Church of God and a member of the Daughters of America and the Johnson City Senior Citizens. She was the widow of Arthur Whisenhunt. WOODSON, C. MERRILL BLUEFIELD, WV -- The Rev. C. Merrill Woodson, 65, of 1028 James St., died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998. He was a native of Farmville, VA, entered the gospel ministry in 1956, and ventured to churches and mission points in Massachusetts, Iowa and throughout Virginia. He completed his education in Lancaster College of Bible and Theology, Lancaster, PA, in 1960, and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC, in 1967. While most of his career was in Virginia, he served with Home and Rescue Missions in Boston and later served two years with the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, in Iowa. The Rev. Woodson served pastorates throughout Virginia including Midway Baptist, Amerst; Liberty Baptist and Slate Hill, Charlottesville; Fluvanna Baptist, Scottsville; Mentow Baptist, Huddleston; Riverside Baptist, Chilhowie; Greenfield Baptist, Meadowview; Reedy Spring Baptist, Spout Spring; and Austinville Baptist, Austinville. Upon his retirement in 1997, he was serving as interim Pastor of Northfork Baptist Church, in Northfork, WV. He was a member of Bluefield Community Church, in Bluefield, WV. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Ramona Ray; three sons, Buddy Woodson, Scottsville, VA, Bruce Woodson, Bluefield, VA, and Brian Woodson, Johnson City; one daughter, Christy, of Clinton, TN; his mother, Margie Manis; two brothers, Robert and Garland Woodson; three sisters, Flora Bolt, Jean Thompson and Katherine Woodson; and four grandchildren.
