  1. I have a relative name James Milton Smith b. 1810 in Ten, lived in Carter Co. The family used the name Cross, also. I’m trying to find his family and was wondering if he may be related to one of these families. Were the Smith and Cross’ related?

    • This is one relationship between the Cross & Smith families buried in this cemetery:
Elijah Cross (1758 – 1844) brother of Abraham Cross and great-grandfather of George Washington Smith >
David Looney Cross (1796 – 1870) son of Elijah Cross >
Martha Jane Cross (1825 – 1908) daughter of David Looney Cross and husband of Samuel Rhea Smith (1822 – 1909) who was the father of George Washington Smith>
George Washington Smith (1843 – 1928) of Sullivan County Tenn, a son of Martha Jane Cross & Samuel Rhea Smith.
