HomeCemeteriesLone Star Cemetery

Located off 36S (John B. Dennis Highway) on 346 W in the Sullivan Garden area of Kingsport, Tennessee 37660. The information was copied on November 1, 2003. It is literally on the side of the road. Although there is a sign, there is no entrance. The graveyard is entirely open along the road while fenced off on the backside toward Bays Mountain and on both ends. The cemetery sign itself is on the western end. There are approximately 240 countable graves with possibly more which are unmarked.

The cemetery exists amid rolling hills and farmland with a beautiful view of the mountain, along with the view of the Bailey subdivision. What was once considered rural is now becoming congested with the influx of new homes. Located almost centrally in the graveyard are two large cedar trees. Along with a peaceful feeling, there is a faint wisp of cedar scent. Although it is kept mowed, there are signs of less than discreet mowing.  It has taken its toll on some of the stones. Some are chipped, cracked, a couple are completely off their bases, and some are tilted and uneven. The stones range from upright markers (large and small), flat markers, military markers, funeral home markers, and homemade markers.

Rows started at the cemetery sign, starting at the road with row #1 etc. Possible graves are noted, as well as approximate footage where there seem to be empty spaces.

Thanks to Pamela Shipley Harris for her work on this site.
