Background:Stophel Cemetery In Front of the Dam

From a copy of a microfilm of the Mottern Family Cemetery. The copy was obtained from the Tennessee State Library and Archives. It was noted on microfilm 320 which was a miscellaneous cemetery listing of the Sullivan County records. The cemetery is located on a little bluff across from the entrance to Lady and Sons Equipment and Company at 409 Hillcrest Rd., Bluff City. Submitted & Annotated by Hugh Mottern
The Mottern Family Cemetery
This Cemetery is located in Sullivan County about fifty yards south of Highway 11E from Piney Flats to Bluff City, and about half way between the two towns. There were a few graves marked with fieldstones and a few unmarked graves.

Elizabeth MOTTERN, March 31, 1836 --- April 2, 1907 age 71 yrs 2 days. (Mary Elizabeth Webb, wife of Henry Mottern.)
Logan TEAGUE, Oct. 27, 1823 --- May 27, 1902.
Francey TEAGUE, Dec. 25, 1827 --- March 1, 1900.
Freddie, son of W.J.and S.MILLER Sept 17, 1903 --- Jan 15, 1904.
John H.,son of Wm.And Sallie MILLER died Sept.10,1895 aged 9 days.
Elizabeth MOTTERN, died June 5, 1863 age 71 years, 5 months. (daughter of Phillip Hobaugh and Catharine Miller (both buried in Webb Cemetery), wife of Nicolas Mottern)
Nicholas MOTTERN, died Sept. 24, 1863 aged 80 years 5 months 7 days. (Son of John Nicholas Mottern (also thought to be buried in this cemetery in an unmarked grave), husband of Elizabeth Hobaugh)
Susan MILLER, Oct 12, 1823 --- Jan.1, 1893.
John MILLER, July 23, 1826 --- May 10, 1893.
Catherine, wife of John MILLER June 30, 1823 --- Jan. 4, 1871.
Elbert, son of John and C. MILLER Sept. 4 1870 --- March 4, 1871.
