BENNETT,  RUSSELL.  I am trying to find parents for my Husband's great grandparents.  Solomon S. Bennett was born abt 1826 in TN.  HE married Melvina Russell in Stewart Co. TN on 20 July 1845.  According to my husband's Aunt'  Melvina was a daughter of a rich steel mfg. She was disowned for marrying Solomon. Supposedly her mother was full blood Indian. tribe unknown.  Solomon and Melvina was on 1850 Stewart Co. Census.  They later moved to Missouri  where Melvina died before 1858.  Again according to the aunt, Melvina was killed in Rolla Missouri by Indians for marrying a white man.??? I don't put much faith in this, since the Indians in Missouri had been removed before 1850's. Solomon later married Lucinda Culp 29 May 1858 in Cedar Co. Mo.  He was a Veg. Dealer who moved back and forth between MO, and ILL.  He apparently died in Montgomery Co  Ill.  His son John Albert by Melvina was my husband's grandfather.  Any help Appreciated. JOICE/JOYCE, YOUNG, FOWLER, OLIVER, CARNEY, SIKES/SYKES. Hi.  My name is Debbie "Joyce" Rosenbloom, and I have been researching my Joyce ancestors for over 9 years.  On September 29, 1998, while in Slat Lake City, Utah, I made a major discovery, which I want to share with everyone researching the Joyce/Young line.  My Grandmother was Maggie Thurman YOUNG JOYCE.  She was the daughter of Lonzo and Liddie YOUNG.  I have searched for years for the marriage records, and family records of Lonzo and Liddie, and I found them.  They married October 30, 1888, in LYON Co., KY.  When they married, his last name was OLIVER!!!!     I have all supporting evidence.  They had 8 children, all residents of Stewart County in adulthood.  The next time I find them, is in the 1900 census, in TRIGG Co, KY, and their last name is YOUNG.   Lonzo (OLIVER) YOUNG was born 3 Jan 1867, in KY, and died 24 May, 1937 in Stewart Co, TN.  Lydia/Liddie G. FOWLER was born 5 May 1866, in KY,  and died 30 August, 1930, in Stewart County.  They are BOTH buried in unmarked graves in the WHITFORD CEMETERY, on Happy Hollow Road.  I want this to be a "testament" to their lives, and recognition of their many descendants, who have searched in vain for years for their roots.  Please feel free to e-mail me with questions, and maybe we will all discover the answers to why they changed their name, and just who our OLIVER ancestors are. Debbie Rosenbloom

THWEAT was born 12 Aug 1793 in S.C.  He first showed up in the 1820 census of Tennessee in Stewart Co.  Henry J. CHESTER was born 1823 in Mont. Co. TN and died in 1854(?) leaving 6 minor children who were "indentured" to their grandfather, Wm. R. Thweatt.  Was this a common practice -- indenturing grandchildren? CRANE, DOWNS. John CRANE, Revolutionary War pensioner from Stewart County, died there on March 3, 1836.  In 1839, Elizabeth DOWNS sold his land to her son, James DOWNS, stating in the deed that the land had belonged to John CRANE until his death. There is no deed in which she bought the land, so I think she inherited it, and was his daughter.  Can anyone help with information about John CRANE? TAYLOR, CROACH, CROCKETT. I previously posted a query concerning THOMAS JEFFERSON TAYLOR, born August 23, 1832. I am looking for any information on him. Since posting my query in November, I have learned more information and would like to add it. The 1840 Census(Stewart Co.) has only two possibilities of his parents. They are Charlotte Taylor and an Armistead Taylor. These are the only two that had children under the age of ten. If anyone knows anything about Charlotte or Armistead I would greatly appreciate it. Thomas J. Taylor is found on the 1860 Census in Massac County, IL. He married in Massac, Co. There is a connection documented in Family Bible that his son, Charles Newton Taylor married Ida Belle Crouch/Croach born 1869. Her mother was Mary Crockett born in Obion, County, TN in 1839. The records state that she is the niece of David Crockett, her father was John Crockett. T.J. Taylor married 3 times, Sarah C. Bowman, Lydia A. House Bradshaw, and Kate V. Patterson. Hope this info rings a bell, would love to know. Cathy Brown Hicks. 4621 Roxie Street, Haltom City, TX 76117 mchicks@mail.swbell.net Submitted on Mon Dec  7 00:55:18 EST 1998

MANLY, WILLIAMS, WALLACE, WYNNS. Searching for the parents of my 4th great grandmother, Martha W. aka "Patsy".  Listed as the consort of Rev. John MANLY on her tombstone in Henry Co., Tennessee.  She and John left Stewart Co. around 1820 and were among the first settlers in Henry Co. She was born about 1791 (possibly in Anson Co., NC as was John) and died on 12 Feb 1822. I believe the families were in Montgomery Co., TN for a time before coming to Stewart.  Martha and John married about 1811 or 1812 (likely Stewart Co).  They named their first son William Charles Manly. The Manly migration seems to coincide with the migration of several families including possible "W" families WALLACE, WILLIAMS and WYNNS.  Also HOGAN, ATKINS and LILLY.  No luck yet in finding her parents.  I've been searching for some time.  Hoping someone might know where Martha fits in with her Tennessee or North Carolina family.  I'm writing a Manley history book for an upcoming Manley family reunion (Oct. 17).  But I need Martha's family! Patterson.
