UNUSUAL TOMBSTONE PICTURE
I know that John and Retta Waggoner have seen a lot of tombstones with pictures but I wonder if they
have ever seen one as unusual as this one. Mr. White appears to have the drop on Mrs. White for some
reason. I guess this was just prank that they did to show their friends. Possibly, Mr. White was proud
of what appears to be his 32 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver and just wanted to have a picture of it.

Anyway, I first saw this tombstone in 1966 and I couldn't help but be amused and wonder why a picture
of this nature was placed on a tombstone. It is located in the Robinson Cemetery of Macon County on
Old Highway 52 a few miles west of Lafayette. Last year (2002), I decided to make a picture of it only
to find that the picture had been vandalized. However, Christine Gregory made this one in 1986.

Nearby residents stated that the tombstone picture caused a lot of interest with many people stopping
to look at it. No one seems to know why this picture was used. If any TNSmith subscribers can shed
any light on this question, I would appreciate hearing about it.
