W. Benton and Mary Brim Jolley
W. Benton Jolley, son of W. H. and Lucy V. Jolley, was born in Riddleton in 1889.
He served in World War I, suffering from the effects of mustard gas for the remainder
of his life. In 1920 he married Miss Mary Brim and shortly thereafter, the couple moved
to Denver, Colorado where he worked for the government in the Department of Veterans
Affairs. He died there in September of 1932 of pneumonia. Benton was known for his
splendid singing voice and was a member of the Denver Choral Society. A. C. Read, Sr.,
after hearing him sing in church once compared him favorably with John McCormack,
the famous Irish tenor of that era.Benton and Mary are buried in Dixon Springs Cemetery.
