Fred Edward Russell was born in 1896 and was a schoolteacher at the time the picture was made. He taught at
a number of schools in the area including Kittrell's near Pleasant Shade and Cato in nearby Trousdale County.
Much of his teaching career was in the Trousdale County School System in Hartsville, Tn. He was married to
Virginia Porter and he died in 1978. They were the parents of a number of children.
John Stanton Gregory was born in 1900 and died in 1967. He was married to Beulah Mary (maiden name Gregory)
and was the father of two children. Stanton lived most of his life near his birthplace on Big Peyton's Creek Road.
Joseph Herod (Joe) Russell was born in 1900 and died in 1980. He was married to Bessie Irene Piper, daughter
of Howard Eugene and Lassie Towns Piper. They were the parents of six children. Joe was a farmer and lived
nearly all his life in the Russell Hollow off Big Peyton's Creek Road near Pleasant Shade. He was also a long
time bus driver for the Smith County School System in the 1950's and 60's.
James Elston Gregory was born in 1898 and died in 1965. He was first married to Alma Smith, daughter of
Floyd and Lula Patterson Smith. There were no children from this marriage. Later, Elston was married to
Pearl Hackett. They had children and lived in Hartsville, Tn. where he was an auto mechanic.
