Mace, Phinhas 21 June 1811-2 July 1890
The History of Smith County has the following:
"Thompson Mace was born in Maryland about 1779 and his wife born in Maryland,
about the year 1775. The 1820 Smith County Census shows them with three sons
and four daughters. ........ it appears they had sons named William and Phineas."
" Phineas Mace was living next to Thompson in 1850. He was probably married twice.
Phineas appears in the 1850 census with a wife named Mary, who was age 27. On August
13, 1863 Phineas was married to Rachel Bowman. They appear in the 1870 Census as age
68 and Rachel age 47..........from the above cited facts regarding the Mace family,
it is surmised the village was named Mace's Hill from the land owners.
Thompson and Phineas Mace."
