Samuel J. was inducted into the army on Oct. 23,1950. Samuel J. first was sent to Nashville TN. Then he went to Charleston , S.C. at (Tank Hill) for the first processing like a haircut, shots and clothes. He stayed there about a week.
Samuel went to basic training at Atterbury Indiana with the 110th Tank Company 28th Division, He received a patch there called the ( Bloody Bucket.)
Samuel was sent to Korea and fought in the 5th Regimental Combat Team, 24th Inf. Division. He received me Presidential Unit Citation. He received this for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy. He accomplished his mission under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions. He received a Korean Service Medal and the Korea Service United Nation Medal with 4 bronze fivepointed Service Stars representing participation in campaigns. The patch he received there in Korea was an Oakleaf. He served in Korea for ten months and ten days. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He was discharged from the army from the 1st Army Division, Ft. Hood Texas on July 23,1952.
