State of Tennessee Robertson County.
         I Thomas O. Tarpley of the State and County aforesaid, have this 27th of March 1855, bargained and sold to William C. Berry of the State and County aforesaid, a certain tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances, lying and being in the Second Civil District, and State and County aforesaid, containing by survey one hundred and forty four acres, and one fourth, be the same more or less for and in consideration of the sum of Fourteen hundred and seventy five dollars to me in hand paid, the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, and bounded as follows: Beginning at a Rock in the Adarville & Cross Plains Road and Running thence North one hundred & eighty one poles to a Stake, thence 87 ½ degrees West one hundred and thirty one poles to a black jack, thence South sixty five & a half poles to a Stake, thence West two and one half poles to a Stake, thence South seventy seven and three fourth poles to a rock, thence South 72 ½ degrees East twenty three poles, to a black jack, thence South seventeen poles to a rock, thence South 72 ½ degrees East sixty two poles to a rock, thence East fifty and three fourth poles to the Beginning. To have and to hold the same to the said Wm C. Berry his heirs and assigns forever. I do covenant with the said W. C. Berry that I am lawfully seized of said land, and have a good right to convey it and that the same is unencumbered. I do further covenant and bind myself my heirs and Representatives to Warrant and forever defend the title to the said land and every part thereof to the said W. C. Berry his heirs and assings, against the lawful claims of all persons whatever, claiming the same either in law or equity. I further covenant and agree to Warrant and defend to the said W. C. Berry the right of way to the Spring known as the Elm Spring forever. Signed, sealed & acknowledged, this 27th day of March 1855.

         Personally appeared before me Robt H. Murphey clk of the County Court of said County. Tho. O. Tarpley on the 7th of January 1856 bargainor to the foregoing deed, and acknowledged the execution of said deed, to be his act and deed for the purposes stated therein. Also personally appeared R. M. Rose, well known to me, and acknowledged the above quit claim to be his act, and deed, for the purposes therein stated. Given under my hand at office the 3th of Novr 1856.
