Jane Payne from John C. Payne July 21st 1835.
         Know all men by these presents that I John C. Payne of the County of Robertson and State of Tennessee am justly indebted to my mother the sum of seven hundred and seventy in divers claims, to wit; one hundred and fifty dollars in a former mortgage under date of 30 July 1830 the sum of ninety dollars as security to Jno W. Saunders cash advanced eighteen dollars also six notes of hundred on date 25 Dec 1835, for fifty one dollars, one dated 23 February 1836 for eleven dollars, one dated second day of (October) 1835 for twenty five dollars, one dated 23rd February 1834 for two dollars, one due 8th June 1835 for eighty seven dollars, one due 6th November 1834 for fifty three dollars also due 2 march 1835 for two hundred and twenty five dollars and in order t secure the payment of the before written sums of money and to save herself my mother the said Payne do by these presents give, grant, bargain, sell and confirm unto the said Jane Payne her heirs and assigns forever all my stock of horses, cattle, hogs and sheep with all my household and kitchen furniture farm tools which are in my possession, all my interest in the Estate of my father, Thomas Payne dec'd (___) fathers will on record and the registers officer for (__) and bounds and quantity together with my interest in the (lean) property of the estate of my father’s estate (presents season) To have and to hold said property with the chattels and appurtenances to the same belonging or in (___) appurtenances to the said Jane Payne her heirs and assigns forever, nevertheless the said is conveyed by mortgage subject to recovery by the said Jane to the said John or his heirs upon the account of said several sums of money with interest thence notwithstanding the said John is to remain in the use and possession of said property which is now by him possessed but to be possessed by said Jane at her option and held until the payment of the said sums of money aforesaid, which possessions with until is then to be (realished) in said John and his heirs. In testimony thereof I the said John hath hereunto set my hand and seal this 21th day of July 1835. Sept 15th him being entered.

State of Tennessee Robertson County.
         Personally appeared before me William Seal, Clerk of the Court of Pleas and quarter sessions for the County aforesaid, John C. Payne the above named bargainer with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged that he executed the foregoing mortgage for the purposes therein contained witness my hand at office this 21st day of July 1835.
