         This indenture made this sixth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & four, between James Mensus Sheriff of Robertson County of the one part & William Findley of the county aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that whereas by virtue of a writ of Vendetoni Exposus forwarded on a judgment obtained by the State & County for there taxes, against John Fowler, issued from the County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions held for the County of Robertson on the third Monday in April 1801, in the Town of Springfield & by virtue of the writ aforesaid directed to the Sheriff aforesaid, requiring him the said Sheriff to cause to be made the sum of three dollars and twenty cents to satisfy the good amount aforesaid, and a further of four dollars and seventy five cents, as fees of office accruing on the aforesaid, and whereas the said James Mensus Sheriff aforesaid, did in ___ of as said of the writ, expose to public sale agreeable to law, one tract of land containing 140 acres butted and bound as follows, to wit, Beginning at three small black oaks runs West one hundred and sixty poles two white oaks, then South one hundred and forty poles to two white oaks and black oak pointer, thence East one hundred and sixty poles to a hickory and dogwood, thence North one hundred and forty poles to the Beginning. And did on the second day of June 1801, and sold the same to the said Wm. Findley who was the highest bidder for the sum seven dollars and ninety five cents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged. Now the said James Mensus for and in consideration of the promises aforesaid and by virtue of the authority vested in him by law as Sheriff aforesaid doth by these presents bargain, sell, aline, release, convey and confirm to the said William Findley, all that certain tract land contained within the bounds aforesaid, with all the singular, the rights, privileges, & condiments, herediments & appurtances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining, To have and to hold the same with the premises aforesaid to the only proper benefit and behoof of him the said Wm. Findley his heirs & assigns forever, against the claims of the said John Fowler, but not otherwise. In witness whereof the said James Mensus Sheriff aforesaid hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal, the day & date first above written.
