WHITE
Looking for any information on the White families in Jefferson County prior to 1830. Truelove WHITE (my gggrandfather) was born in Jefferson County in 1816. He had moved to Hamilton County by 1840 and on to Missouri by 1853. I have been unable to connect him to siblings or parents. His childrens names were: James, Thomas, John W., Martha, Elijah, Mary, Sarah, Alfred, George, and Tennessee. His wife's name was Eliza or Elzira. Truelove is such an unusal first name that there is a good chance that was his mother's maiden name. On the census records he says his father is from Virginia and his mother from Tennessee.

TRIBUE - JEFFERSON COUNTY
In search of any information about my paternal grandmother, Bessie Turner. She was born 13-Oct-1864 somewhere in Tennessee, and married Thomas A. Price on 19-Sep-1883, somewhere in Tennessee. At the suggestion of several rooters, I sent off for her death certificate and learned that her mother's maiden name was TRIBUE. The 1870 Tennessee Census of Jefferson County lists a Doct. J. Tribue and a Jabob Tribue. Does anybody have any record of a Tribue, or possibly a Trabue, with a daughter born possibly between 1842 and 1848 marrying a Turner who was born possibly between 1838 and 1844 - in Jefferson County or any other county in Tennessee? Will appreciate any and all responses and be most happy to share. John E. Price Please e-mail JohneP4596@aol.com

LEEPER
Lewis Feltnor LEEPER (1810-1888) lived in Hamblen Co. most of his life. His father was Matthew LEEPER located across the county line in Jefferson at Muddy Creek. I am looking for Matthew Leeper's wife and the names of their parents. Do you have a copy of the 1870 and 1880 Hamblen Co. census? Lewis or his siblings Peyton C. and William K. may have listed their parent's names and birthplaces. There is a chance that Matthew LEEPER's wife was a Native American. I lack a carabelle cusp which indicates that lineage, and Matthew's wife and both their parents are the only unknown relatives. Any leads will be greatly appreciated.

LEEPER
Matthew LEEPER (1787-1853) first appears in Jefferson Co. in a deed for property on Muddy Creek. He spent the rest of his life there. We have not been able to find his grave or the grave of his first wife. More than likely they were buried on his property. He was a coffin maker by trade and supposedly well off enough to afford grave markers. Can anyone tell me where this Muddy Creek farm is located? Was it inundated by one of the dams in the area?

BELL,CARTER
Seeking info. on William BELL, married Emma CARTER and resided in Talbott, Tenn. William died in 1903 before second child Willa Mae (daughter) born September - 1903. Other child Oliver born 10/25/01. Emma very ill with Tuberculosis and Willa Mae and Oliver were sent to Chicago, Ill. to live with aunt. Believe the aunt's name was Rose JOHNSON (married Rudolf PRIES in Chicago in 1895). She was in the theater and her name(s) may have been changed, think she is sister of Emma Carter, unable to verify. After children moved to Ill. aunt changed Willa Mae's first name to Rose and gave children PRIES surname. There were other relatives in Tenn. but we don't have names other than the family story that John Bell, Tenn. Senator who also was a Whig and ran against Lincoln was a relative, unable to confirm yet. Willa Mae (Rose) and her family visited with relatives in the area in the 1940's, we think it was with an uncle, but the children can't remember any details, believe it was in the Morristown vicinity.

Smith, who lived in Jefferson County, TN. The 1850 census for that county shows Jacob C. Smith's family with a son John J., aged 22, identified as a farmer. Jacob's wife, Katherine, was apparently his second wife and was too young to be John's mother. On September 22, 1852, John Smith married Matilda America McGee in Jefferson County. One of their sons was Jacob Burrell Smith, perhaps named after his grandfathers Smith of Franklin Co. and Burrell McGee of South Carolina. Thanks for any information.

George was the illegitimate son of Catherine Jane LANE, d/o Phinneas "Finy" and Jane SCOTT LANE, and a Nat. Am. of "red skin" from a "Warrior tribe from the west". George's mother died when he was ca 5 years of age and was reared by Isaac LANE, thought to be his uncle. George had a sister named Eveline and a brother named Randolph, who never used his "Lane" name - always referred to himself as a SCOTT. (His father's name?) Kate PHILLIPS is thought to be the d/o William & Mary Jane BARBEE(BARBRE/BARBER). Mary Jane is thought to be full Indian from the "Barbee tribe?" Kate had 2 known sisters: Thula and Maggie, and 1 brother Charles. Family history also tells of "Black George". It is unknown if he is my Geo. W. or someone else.
