CATES, JERNIGAN

My great-grandfather was George Dibrel CATES. He was born in 1870, possibly in Jackson Co., TN. He and great-grandmother Minnie OLIVER lived for sometime (1897-1924 approximately) in White Co. near Sparta. He had kinfolk that lived in Monterey, Putnam County. One of his nieces was married to a JERNIGAN (sorry, I don't know their given names). I saw a query posted back in 98' by Cathy Jernigan Morrison, but her email address is not valid. I am looking for help on my gg grandfather Bithel Alexander Marlow, born 1843. We were told he died in 1875, yet can find nothing to verify that. Then we found a B.A. Marlow on the 1891 Tn Voters list. 1891 MARLOW B. A. Putnam County TN 053 10 Ward-male Voters- TN 1891 Voters. List TN509223558 I have a copy of a letter he wrote to the Muscogee Tribe in 1874 asking for permission to wait out the winter on their lands. He was running sheep to Kansas and the winter was coming fast. He didn't think that he could get them there before the winter got bad. He signed that letter: B. A. Marlow. Now, this is where I need your excellent help. How do I find out if there is more information that can be gathered by this Voters list. Is there anyway at all to find out who this is or how old they are? Any help you can give will be so-o very appreciated. Thank you again, Vicki Walberg

What is needed to prove Cherokee heritage that would be sufficient to join The Cherokee Tribe? My grandmother & grandfather I grew up with told me always that my great-grandmother was full Cherokee. How does one prove their heritage to the government and to the Cherokee Tribe? If anyone can e-mail me with any info. I sincerely thank you.
