Chestnut Grove Cemetery analysis

Surnames beginning A - N

Analysis contributed by:  Joyce Warner Douglass

16 March 2009

Photographs contributed by:  Sandy Daniel

This cemetery is located at Chestnut Grove Church of Christ on the north side of Highway 412 about two miles east of Linden. Part of the cemetery lies behind the church, part is in front near the highway. The cemetery is maintained well. The total number of unmarked graves is somewhat difficult to estimate but probably numbers several dozen.  This cemetery is located in the Coon Creek section of the Buffalo River Watershed, East Side.

There are a couple known transcriptions of this cemetery:

  • David Donahue recorded this cemetery on 27 November 1999;

  • David Donahue checked and updated it on 22 August 2004;

  • (both of the Donahue transcriptions were recorded on the TnGenWeb site currently at:   (click here)

  • Mary (Stewart) Bowen and Melissa (Snyder) Bowen recorded this cemetery in the early 1990s.  Their transcription was also published in the Bowen Cemetery book,  Volume 1.  This is published online (click here).

  • Sandy Daniel took pictures of these tombstones in February 2009, which are shown below;

Chestnut Grove Cemetery, February 2009

In the list below, I’ve started with what is recorded on the new searchable TnGenWeb site and compared it to the other transcriptions.  Note:  the information included in the columns may be more than what is listed on the tombstone.  It may be information collected from various persons.
