Barber Qualls Cemetery analysis

aka Barber (Copeland) Cemetery

Analysis contributed by:  Jan Monnin

09 July 2010

Photos contributed by:  Looking for a volunteer who lives in the area to go to this cemetery and take digital photos of the tombstone inscriptions. Then email them to Jan Monnin, your county coordinator.  Thanks.

Located on the north side of highway 412 approximately 4 miles east of highway 100 in the Coon Creek section of the Buffalo River Watershed, East Side.

Shown as Qualls Cemetery on the U.S.G.S. Graves Springs quadrangle, the Barber & Qualls Family Cemetery is a well maintained cemetery on the north side of highway 412 approximately 4 miles east of highway 100. Old markers have been carefully washed and repaired. What is difficult to determine is the cemetery's age. Existing markers lie either on the north or south sides of the cemetery. A large area in the center is open but shows evidence of old burials. This area is probably full and the old fieldstones were removed to make grass mowing and other maintenance easier.

David Donahue recorded Barber & Qualls Cemetery October 4, 2001 and checked and updated it September 24, 2004. Mary (Stewart) Bowen and Melissa (Snyder) Bowen recorded the cemetery in the early 1990s. Their record appears in Mary Bowen's Perry County, Tennessee Cemetery Records (Vol. I). This earlier record is referred to as Bowen in the notes below.

The following are the known transcriptions of this cemetery:

  • Recorded by Mary (Stewart) Bowen and Melissa (Sndyer) Bowen in the 1990s;

  • Recorded by David Donahue on 04 October 2001;

  • David Donahue checked and updated this cemetery on 24 September 2004;

In the list below, I’ve started with what is recorded on the new searchable TnGenWeb site, compared it to the other transcriptions and made a note of any difference.
