VANDERPOOL, MR. ROSS – age 88 of Lancing, passed away Friday, August 8, 2003 at the U.T. Medical Center. He was the oldest male member of Pilot Mountain Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Vanderpool; son, Gary Vanderpool and daughter-in-law, Lynn of Winterville, NC; son, Donald Vanderpool of Helenwood; daughter, Kay Stringfield and son-in-law, Ernest Stringfield of Lancing; grandchildren, Teresa Byrd, Charles (Chuck) Vanderpool, Angie Harlan, and Sarah Vanderpool; six Great- grandchildren and one Great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. VANN, DORA FAYE, age 55, a resident of Wartburg, went home to be the Lord Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Life Care Center of Wartburg. Dora Faye was born August 23, 1953 in Oliver Springs. She is a lifelong resident of the Beechfork Community in Morgan County. Dora was a member of the Beechfork Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rommie Vann, Sr. and Zell Marie Basler Vann by sisters, Doris June Portwood and Dona Marie Vann, and by a brother, James Thomas Vann. She is survived by two brothers,Rommie Vann Jr. and wife Pat and Donald Vann and wife Pat of Wartburg, by sisters, Addie Lou Liles and husband Pat of Rockwood, Wanda Justice of LaFollette, and Peggy Sexton of Somerset, Ky. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and extended family members.The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 24, 2009 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 pm at Sharp Funeral Home. VANN, FREDDIE, 73, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Mon. Feb. 25, 2002 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.  Mr. Vann was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Vann and by two brothers, Ralph Vann and Kenneth Vann.  Survivors include wife of 51 years, Ethel Vann of Oliver Springs, mother, Rosie Vann of Oliver Springs, daughters, Jewell Sledge and husband James of Sweetwater, Deanna Russell and husband Tim of Sweetwater, Ramona Turpin and husband Danny of Oliver Springs, Ella Mae Lowe of Oliver Springs, Wanda White and husband Chuck of Riceville, and Vickie Clark and husband Benny of Oak Ridge; sons, Nathan Vann of Wartburg, Darrell Vann and wife Cissy of Sweetwater and Allen Vann and wife Misty of Philadelphia, 25 grandchildren, brothers, Irvin Vann of Oliver Springs, Charles F. VANN, MR. PAUL BOWMAN, age 70 of Wartburg, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 24, 2006. He passed away peacefully at his home. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army, having served several tours of duty in Vietnam and Korea. He was also retired from Martin Marietta. He also enjoyed auto racing. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Vann; mother, Addie Vann; brother, Kenneth Vann; and sister, Evelyn (Vann) Longmire. His wife of 47 years, Ursula Vann of Wartburg, two sons; Mike Vann and Barbara of Joyner, and Thomas Vann and Cindy of Karns survive him. Three grandchildren: Mathew Vann of Joyner, Cory Vann of Clinton, and Jordan Vann of Wartburg. Ones sister and brother-in-law, Nena Faye and Clyde Phillips of Joyner. VANN, ROMMIE ROBERT SR., 91, Joyner Community, died June 13, 2004 in the Roane Medical Center in Harriman. He was born Nov. 4, 1912 in Oliver Springs.  Mr. Vann was a long time member of Beech Fork Holiness Church.  He was a retired home builder, building homes in the surrounding area since 1945.  In addition, he was a United States Navy veteran, serving his country during WW II.  He was preceded in death by his wife Zell Marie Vann; son James Thomas Vann; daughters Dona Marie Vann and Doris June Portwood; and parents John and Dona Collins Vann.  He is survived by sons, Rommie Vann, Jr., and wife Pat of the Joyner Community and Donald Ray Vann and wife Pat of the Joyner Community; daughters, Addie Lou Liles and husband Pat of Rockwood, Wanda Justice of LaFollette, Peggy Sexton of Stanford, KY., and Dora Faye Vann of Joyner; several grandchildren.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. June 15, 2004 in Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. VANN, ROMMIE ROBERT, JR. – 64, of the Joyner Community, went Home to be with our Lord on Friday, November 20, 2009. He passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by love. He was a member of the Beech Fork Holiness Church, which he loved dearly. Rommie, Jr. was a self-employed carpenter who enjoyed farming, fishing and serving the Lord. He enjoyed nothing more than talking about his Savior and he was a walking testimony of His Word. VARGA, MR. ALEX E. – age 89 of Sunbright, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2006 in the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Varga was one of three who founded Varga Company, a custom millwork shop in the early 1940’s in Sunbright where it is still in operation today. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Hazel Mae Varga, parents, Samuel and Ester Bak Varga; brothers, Elmer and Joe Varga; sisters, Helen Fudor and Isabelle Sanders. VARGA,  ESTHER   the wife of the late Sam Varga, died  Feb.  14, 1988. She was 101 years old.  She was a resident of Morgan County for 71 years.  She came from Fulesd, Szatmar Megye, Hungary on the ship Carpathia in 1901. She and her husband married in Ohio and later moved to Lancing in 1917.Mr. Varga died Nov. 19, 1970 at the age of 85.  He operated awoodworking company in Sunbright with two of his sons, Alex Varga, and the late Joe Varga.   Her children:  Isabelle Sanders., Helen Fodor, Alex Varga and the late Joe and Elmer Varga.  She leaves  seven grandchildren; 14 g-grandchildren and two g-g-grandchildren. VARGAS, ELSIE FAY, 85, passed away March 13, 2009 in El Paso TX.  She was preceded in death by her parents David Allen Copeland and Della Faye Harris, brothers Rev. Fred Copeland and Rev. James Copeland.
She is survived by her daughter Carmen Holbrook and grandson Freddie Dean and her sister Hazel Copeland.

VAUGHN, CORA LEE,  67, of Coalfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was born July 14, 1934, in Scott County. She was a homemaker and had lived in Coalfield for the past 45 years. Mrs. Vaughn was a Baptist.  She is survived by her husband, Gene Vaughn; her son, Steve Farr of Coalfield; two brothers, Ethridge Dyer and his wife, Eloise, of Jay, Okla., and Robert Dyer and his wife, Alma, of Coalfield; three sisters, Thelma Lyles and her husband, William, of Coalfield, L. Jean Kowalewski and her husband, Frank, of Michigan, and Martha Frances “Susie” Doré and her husband, Harold, of Jay, Okla.; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Kay Edmonds, Frances Carroll and Judy Jackson were considered special friends. Mrs. Vaughn was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Opal Lee Crowley Dyer and by an infant sister, Virginia Dyer.  The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home  in Oliver Springs with the Rev. David Coffman officiating. VAUGHT, CORDIA MAE WEBSTER, longtime resident of Chattanooga, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at home. She was 66.
Mae was a native of Morgan County, Tenn., and graduated from South Harriman High School in 1961. She attended Knoxville Business College. Mae was a member of Soddy-Daisy First Baptist Church where she was active for several years. She was a volunteer for several organizations, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a true example of a kind, Christian individual. She was preceded in death by her mother, Inez Palmer Webster; her father, Orville Webster; and a brother, John Carlton Webster, all of Harriman. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jim Vaught; two daughters, Leeann Vaught (Todd) Larson, Angie Vaught (Mark) Hixson. One granddaughter, Haley Hixson; and two step-granddaughters, Taylor Hixson and Maclain Hixson; and many family and friends. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. today, July 23, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Duncan officiating. Burial will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
