Old Montgomery Inn

“YE OLDE TAVERN ON EMORY RIVER”

Built about 1825

The Old Inn at Montgomery stood about 100 years and was at one time the county seat of Morgan County. The old “Hotel”, a two story log-pen type buiding, near the Emory River Ford served the weary travelers on their way to the State Capital in Nashville or into Kentucky because it was located on the main roll road from Knoxville to Nashville and a direct route into Kentucky.
The old building was used as a dwelling until about the time of World War I. No one seems to be able to recall when it was torn down or who the last family was that occupied it. The family shown in the hallway and on the steps is said to be the family of Jack Moats, probably the last family to live there. Others in the photo are not identified.
