Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas of Sweetwater have been notified that their son, Sgt. John Elmer Thomas, died of wounds received in the invasion of France on June 6.  He was in one of the first tank divisions to land.  Memorial services were held Sunday afternoon at Murray’s Chapel.  Sgt. Thomas had been in service three years and had gone to England about six months ago.
