(He died Jan. 23, 1945, buried Manila American Cemetery, Philippines)

SWEETWATER, Tenn., Jan. 2 --- The War Department has sent news of two Sweetwater men in service.  Lt. Allen Harris had been wounded in action.

Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Horowitz had not heard from their younger son, Jay, since January, 1942, until a telegram came from the War Department in Washington stating: "Your son, Lt. Jay Horowitz, is a prisoner of war in the Philippines.  Letter follows."

Mr. Horowitz said his son, Jay, was a senior at the University of Tennessee when he left to go to an air school in Miami in March, three years ago, receiving his wings in 1940.  He was 24 years old on Dec. 30.
