Powell of Belltown has received a telegram stating
that her son, Pvt. Claude Powell, was killed in action on Sep. 12 in France. He had been in service since Feb.
1943. He is survived by his mother who
is deaf and dumb and one sister Mrs. Reed Sloan of Belltown.
The body of Pvt. Claude Powell, of
near Madisonville, who was killed in Italy on Sep. 12, 1944, arrived at Kyker Funeral Home at 3 p.m. Monday. Funeral services
were held Tuesday afternoon at Big
Creek Baptist
Church, the Rev. John
Stakely officiating. Burial was in the
church cemetery. Surviving are his
mother, Mrs. Effie Powell; a sister, Mrs. Reed Sloan, Madisonville; two brothers, Lloyd of
Knoxville and James of New York.
