CASUALTY
Shepherd was reported missing and ultimately declared dead
on October 7, 1944. Recorded

lost at sea". Incident location: Politz,
Poland.
DETAILS
T/Sgt Ancil U Sheperd enlisted at Camp Forrest, Tennessee on May 25,
1942. He was one of the half dozen children of James H Shepherd and Malinda
Ford.
He was on the crew of B-17G #44-8046 during a mission to Politz,
Poland. Over the target area there was intense and accurate flak and two
engines caught on fire. Their aircraft went down in a steep dive. An engine
and a piece of the right wing came off. Then a section of the tail came off.
Then the plane blew up or simply fell apart.
Some of the men were able to bail out in time. Others were not so lucky.
INCIDENT

related to the #44-8046 incident on October 7, 1944.
