MONROE CO., TN
DIVORCE INDEX through 1968
Indexed by Joy Locke
Divorces are held in both Chancery and Circuit Court Civil. The following is an INDEX. The number for loose Chancery Records is the case number. Circuit Court has page numbers and in some cases the page number followed by the case number, such as 45/300. You'll need to give all the info from the index with names, date, page numbers and which court. Some cases were dismissed or they reconciled. There are at times more than one case filed even in both courts. It would be worth checking out all listed. You can enquire whether the divorce had a final decree.
In the case of Circuit Court records, some were badly damaged or destroyed due to water damage, these being newer records starting in 1950s. It could be there will be information in the Minute books. Some loose records were filed but never went to court perhaps because the plaintiff changed their mind, but has valuable genealogy information.
Our Monroe Co. Archives has these records so you'll need to contact the Archives for copy fees, or just come in to view them.
See Monroe Co., Tn Archives. You should probably check our archives first.
The Tennesse State Library and Archives also has Tennessee Divorces 1945-1968. Tennessee Department of Health, office of vital records has the newer divorces 1969-2019. You'll need to download forms from both places.
