 Sept 16, 1847.  George Underdown - Will.   In the name of God amen.  I George Underdown of the County of McMinn and State of Tennessee being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all man once to die.  I make and ordain this my last will and testament revoking all other wills by me made. Item the first, I give and commend my soul to God who gave it and my body to be decently buried in the earth from which it was taken and as to my worldly substance which God has been pleased to bless me with I will and bequeath as follows.  I will is so much of my property be sold as will satisfy all my just debts.  Item the first my will is that my son John K. Underdown have a horse and saddle and also my son Joseph K. Underdown have when they become of age or sooner if needed to be equal to the horse and I gave Thomas A. Underdown and my will further is that my son John K. Underdown and my son Joseph K. Underdown have the tract of land I now live on so equally divided between them at my wife's death or widowhood the tract of land my son Thomas A. Underdown now lives on.  I contracted to and agreed to pay one hundred dollars to David Smith of the price of said land of which I have paid eighty-eight dollars to Smith.  My will is that my son Thomas A. Underdown have said land provided he shall pay to the said David Smith the balance due for said land otherwise the said tract of land stand good for itself.  My will is that Thomas A. Underdown have a certain black heifer that I have now and that my daughter Margaret Ann Barker have a certain red heifer that I now have and whenever they shall think proper to take them.  I will and bequeath to my loving wife Frances Underdown the tract of land I now live on together all my stock of every kind, plantation utensils, household and kitchen furniture during her lifetime or widowhood and at my wife's death or marriage my will is that my five daughters Jane M. Swinney, Margaret Ann Barker, Mary S. Underdown & Nancy P. Underdown, Rebecca E. Underdown have all my household & kitchen furniture together all my remaining stock of every kind to be equally divided amongst them after my three younger named girls are made equal in property to them all ready married which is one cow and a brass bedstead and furniture which I want my wife to give them as soon as they need it or become of age.  I purchased a horse of Thomas A. Underdown last spring for which I owe him forty dollars.  He must be paid that sum from the proceeds of the sale of my property.  As witness my hand and seal this sixteenth day of September one thousand seven hundred and forty seven _______ before assigned.  And  I  further appoint Robert Gregory & James D. Henley to execute this my last will and testament in presence of Daniel Pearce the day and date above written.  Signed:  George (his mark) Underdown (Seal)  Witnesses:  Daniel Pearce, H. K. (Note at bottom of will says "The date of the foregoing will is incorrect.  It was executed on the 16th day of September 1847 as sworn by the subscribing witnesses thereto.)
