Notes from Dick Wood

 

   JAMES ENDSLEY BIRTHPLACE:  Virtually every genealogy I have seen gives either Pennsylvania or N. Ireland as a birth place.  I have never seen a source for this information cited.  In view of his locality,  neighbors and kinsmen, it seems plausible enough, however.

   JAMES ENDSLEY BIRTH DATE:  A lot of researchers affix a 1742 - 1745 date of birth.  Again, I have never seen a source cited for the information.  It also seems to be plausible.

 

   *JOHN ENDSLEY, Sr. as father of James Endsley.  NOTHING ELSE FITS after a careful perusal of available early Rowan, Guilford, Surry and Stokes Counties, NC records.  Admittedly my hypothesis. (Charles R. "Dick" Wood). NOT PROVED BUT HIGHLY LIKELY. John Endsley, Jr., and Andrew  Endsley, both  named in the James Endsley estate sale record were likely  brothers of James Endsley.  John Endsley, Sr. (probable father of the other Endsleys, also named in the report of sale as a buyer, was the probable father of James, John, Jr.,  Abraham, and Andrew Endsley.  The record of Sale of James Endsley's estate was  recorded August 1777 in Surry Co., NC  Court records.

 

   JANE BLAIR birth place, birth date, parents:  See  JOHN BLAIR OF GUILFORD COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA and Some of His Descendants , Copyright 1979 by Lucy Echels Blair.  It is held in larger genealogical libraries and is available on LDS microfilm # 2056083.  

   JANE BLAIR DATE OF DEATH & BURIAL LOCATION.  See MARSHALL COUNTY, TENNESSEE TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTIONS,  WPA Historical Records Project # 105-44-699.  Remember, she re-married to Rev. CPT  John C. Cummings, so her tombstone read "Consort of J. C. Cummings."  The WPA project was compiled before 1940.  The stone is either missing or no longer identifiable. 

 

 Family lore has it that Jane, sitting by the fireplace during a spring thunderstorm, was struck by a bolt of lightening, which came down the chimney.  It reportedly melted her spectacles.  [Story related to Mrs. (Lula Cummings) John Roy Endsley by Ms. R. K. Orr of Belfast, Tenn.  in 1964 and reported in the "John Blair book," page 31].  I have copies of Lula Endsley's unpublished papers, which also relate the story.
