Miss Nealie Meador Answers Call of Death

Another Lafayette lady, Miss Nealie Meador, was called by death at one o’clock Saturday afternoon at the home of her sister, Mrs. Alice Pitchford, with whom she had made her home for many years. She was never married and is survived by two brothers, Sam Meador of Lafayette; and Johnnie Meador of Maple Grove; and one sister, Mrs. Pitchford.

Following funeral services conducted by Elder L.A. Stewart, the remains were laid to rest Sunday afternoon in the Howser Cemetery on Long Creek. She was a professed Christian, although she was not identified with any church. She had lived in Lafayette for the past 22 years and was favorably known here. She was the daughter of Will and Mary Dotson Meador.

Chester A. Cook Dies From Sudden Heart Attack

Chester Arthur Cook, aged 51 years, died on a street car in Detroit, where he had lived for years, on April 16th, death coming to him suddenly and unexpectedly while he was performing his duties as a conductor. He had not previously been ill and apparently had no premonition of coming death. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Myrtle M. Cook, formerly of Seneca, MO; his aged mother, Mrs. Elecia Cook of Lafayette; three brohers, Greeley Cook, Lafayette barber; Smith Cook, also of Detroit; and Lelan Cook of Port Clinton, Ohio; and three sisters, Mrs. L.D. Robinson of Bowling Green; and Mrs. J.A. Tucker and Mrs. E.J. Tucker, both of Lafayette.

The remains were brought back to this county for burial Friday afternoon in the cemetery of Liberty Baptist church, following funeral services conducted by Elder L.D. Robinson. He was a hard-working man, honest and upright in his dealings with his fellowman. He was the son of the late Bennett Cook, and was a native of the Long Fork section of this county.

Local Team Wins

The Lafayette beef judging team took third place in the judging contest held at Middle Tennessee Experiment Station in Columbia last Saturday. The team was composed of Future Farmers Earl Dean Ragland, Leon Cothron, Merlin Driver. Merlin Driver was winner of second place as individual beef judge.

Approximately one hundred Future Farmers of America participated in the judging and speaking contest taking place at the Middle Tennessee Experiment State at Columbia on Saturday, April 14. These vocational agricultural students were winners in their home districts and at the Experimental Station, they competed with boys representing forty middle Tennessee counties.

Isham-Jones

Miss Jackie Isham and Robert W. Jones were the parties to a marriage that took place in a Nashville Church of Christ on April 4th. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isham of North Nashville. The groom is in the U.S. Navy, a first-class seaman, having enlisted more than two years ago and having spent some time in the South Pacific. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Dave Jones of Nashville. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Haley of Lafayette. A wedding dinner was given the newly married couple at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Haley on April 8th, with a large number of guests attending. Mr. and Mrs. Jones received a number of nice gifts. Their many friends here and at Nashville, extend best wishes for happiness.
