Loudon County Images from the 1940s-1950s

contributed by John N. Alexander

John says:  I'm interested in finding some old photos of the Bacon Mill that in the 1940s was located at the right base of the Bridge, crossing from the Lenoir City side to the Loudon Side of the river. I'd also like to find photos of the old Loudon Elementary School that I understand burned several years ago. Do you know if photos circa 1940s exist of the First Baptist Church and where it was located?

If anyone can help John locate photos please email him by clicking on his name above!  Thanks!

Also, John notes: I would greatly appreciate any one with info/comments on these photos contacting me.

ham radio boys
These photos were taken by Noel Alexander circa early 1930s of two of his amateur "ham" radio hobbyists in Loudon TN. Does anyone recognize these earlier air waves pioneers?

ham station Noel and friends
The photo on the left is a close up of one of the first the "home built" amateur radio stations in Loudon TN, circa 1934. The photo on the right is Noel Alexander (right) with two unidentified "ham" friends circa 1932-35

ham radio cards
Some QSL Cards that "hams" used to send to each other after they had spoken, one with the other, by either voice or code. I believe these were mostly from the 1930s and 1940s, although a few could have been as late as the 1950s.
