Rev. J. L. W. Browning

Rev. J. L. W. Browning was born in Davidson co. Tenn., in 1834; gave his heart to his Saviour when he was about eighteen years of age. Moved by the Holy Ghost to preach, he accordingly presented himself to the Church and received a license. As a licentiate he was faithful. He was ordained a deacon by Bishop Paine, at Covington, in 1865, and an elder by Bishop McTyeire, at Cageville, in 1869. In these several relations to the church, Brother Browning ordained the doctrine of our Church and was eminently useful. He was a local preacher, and being well qualified he made himself useful by employing that part of his time not given to the Church in school-teaching. He lovingly answered the calls of his family. They loved him, and he loved them. This servant of God answered the last call of his master at seven o'clock p.m., March 11, 1872, and went home. Sister Browning, for eighteen years you were happy with your now sainted husband; be faithful and the happiness will be renewed in a better world. Julia Demetra and Walter, god bless you children!. Be faithful and meet your father in heaven. C. J. MAULDIN
