Another shooting in Hancock County

On the 15th last about 10 0’clock near where Richard Greene shot Jones sometime ago, another shooting ?(cant make out word) occurred. Thomas Greene was shot in the arem, just above the elbow, shivering? The bones, so much so that small particles of bone came out.  One of the balls grazed through his brothers clothes. It seems that Greene and his brother were looking over the fields when someone fired on them, the ball hitting Greene as stated above.  The parties made their escape and are supposed to be three men by the names of Jones, Pratt and Moore.  Warrants have been issued for their arrest. We understand that they have ?(cant make out) the law and say they will not be arrested.

This is a bad state of affairs and we hope to hear that all is quiet and that law has taken its course and the guilty parties brought to justice.

Shooting is getting to be a common thing.

We learn since writing the above that this Asa Jones, the father of James Jones, that was killed some time ago by Dick Greene. Dick and Lincoln Greene were with ?(cant make out) in the field when he was shot by the above parties and that quiet a number of shots were fired. We are not informed whether the Greenes returned fire or not.

Later

On Monday morning John Greene another brother, went to house of Asa Jones and as he was leaving a party fired on him. About twenty-five shots were fired, none of them hit him.  One of the parties sent to this place on Monday and bought all the Winchester cartridges they could find. We expect to hear of more trouble yet.

Up to the time of going to press no arrests had been made. The Sheriff of Hancock County had a possee of men in the neighborhood on Tuesday. We hope it will be stopped without further blooshed…Rogersville Review.
