My grandfather & grandmother on my mothers side. Pops was Virgil Newton HALL, Granny was Hassie Mae SIVLEY. I have Virgil's mother's name (Sarah Ollie) but can't seem to find Virgil's fathers name. 1900 census is no help. Can't find Hamilton Co. or Rhea Co. census for 1900. Rhea Co. is where Virgil was born abt. 1892. Need help.

Joie Mae WOOLUM from Wartburg, Morgan Co Tenn was married in Chattanooga sometime between 1935 and 1949. She was nurse at one of the big hospitals. Believe the groom was a doctor. There was a big write up in the local paper with a large picture of her.

Searching for descendants of Eliza ROGERS who married William CAMPBELL on the 1880 census of Dade Co. Ga. They were living next door to my ggg grandparents Ambrose K ROGERS and wife Sarah (REED) ROGERS. I then found William and Eliza back in Hamilton Co. Tn. on the 1900-1910 census. Eliza's sister married Samuel l. YOTHERS in 1875 in Sequatchie Co. Tn. My gg grandmother Nancy (ROGERS) TAYLOR was a sister to Eliza and Almeda. I will be very grateful for any help on this family. I have hit a brick wall.

I am searching for the ancestory of my paternal grandfather. Name: Jefferson Carl CARDEN or Jefferson Colquitt CARDEN. Residence: Chattanooga,Tn on Standifer Gap Road, next to the Hamilton County Property housing the County Workhouse. He purchased the farm at the above mentioned location in the 1920's or the early 1930's, possibly 1931 and lived there until his death in 1952.

Prior to the purchase of the farm on Standifer Gap Rd, he and my grandmother Della (McCAMIE) CARDEN lived in the Eastlake area of Chattanooga. He was a union employee of the Southern Railway in Chattanooga as was my father Charles William CARDEN. Both my grandfather and my father were members of Worley Lodge in Chattanooga, Tn. Jefferson Carl CARDEN (or Jefferson Colquitt CARDEN) died at the age of 73, in the spring of 1952.

She married Absalom Riley HATFIELD, Jr. and had 4 children I believe. There names are Absalom III, Harold Thomas, Peggy Jean, and John David HATFIELD. They divorced and the children when into foster care for a short time. I was told that she moved to Dayton, Ohio and remarried. I don't know what her new last name would of been. Sgt Jacob L. DERRICK, Company I, SC 15th Infantry Regiment was a member of South Carolina Confederate soldiers in and around Russellville, TN during the winter of 1863-1864. He died of disease (Pneumonia) in early January 1864.

Looking for any information on where he may be buried.

My gr-gr-grandfather was born 1836 in Hamilton County. He also married in Hamiton County a woman by the name of Janie Lynn CHEEK.They moved to Sequatchie County Tenn.They both passed in 1879. Their son Thomas Jefferson LAYMAN is my greatgrandfather. He passed in 1920 in Grundy Co.

I have two questions.
1. What was Mitchell's mothers full name and ethnic back ground?
2. Does anyone have the names of both parents of Janie Lynn (CHEEK) LAYMAN and were they came from and ethnic background?

I am looking for any information on James Thomas NOWLIN (06/10/1886-03/12/1914), married Alice Ethel THOMAS (04/20/1888 - 10/18/1960). They were married ( I believe) in Hamilton Co Tennessee. They had 2 children Willie Ruth NOWLIN (11-12-1907) and James Edward NOWLIN (10/28/1909).

I welcome any information available on any of these individuals. I believe that James Edwards father was Jacob (P. or T) NOWLIN, who served in armies during the Civil War. He is buried in Chattanooga National Cemetery (plot S, 13419, died 02-21-07). We also know that he had a daughter named Laura NOWLIN.
Any information will be greatly appreciated!!

G-g-grandfather, John SMITH 1840-1933 wife Martha PORTER G-g-grandfather, Newton HARDY b. 1840's wife Sally McGINNIS
G-g-grandfather Thomas JONES b.1850 wife Susan MORGAN (Brown)

Newton HARDY served in the Civil War for the Confederacy. John SMITH is buried in the National Cemetary but I don't know where his wife is buried. I found both of these men in the 1860 Census in Georgia but they raised their families and ended up dying in Tennessee.

Thomas JONES and Susan MORGAN are both reported to have been from the McMinn county area. I know where Susan is buried but not when or where Thomas JONES is buried or any census records.

The McGINNIS' and the PORTERs could possibly be from GA or AL. I have no information on them at all.

Searching for any information on the family of John SUGGS who died in 1908 Sale Creek Tn. he was married to Frankie SURRETT, ( a native of Rockwood Tn) they had 2 daughters Wilma and Margret, who lived in Fla, and John has a grandson named Robert Antrim who was living in Tampa Fla.

I have the obituary of Frankie SUGGS, but never found John SUGGS grave or his brother Archie's grave, nor their mother Martha SUGGS grave. They may be buried in Sale Creek.

I need all the info I can get on this family, so any info would be most apprieciated!!

Lula b. 11/1/1882 KY d. 1934 Chattanooga, TN Buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
Jesse and Lula listed in the 1930 census living in Chattanooga, with their daughter and son-in-law, Maurie Lee and Richard L. PEELER. Trying to learn where Jesse Young McQUIGG is buried. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Seeking info on Daniel HARDY, b.NC ca 1828, parents b.VA and wife,Sophia CATE(S), b.NC ca. 1828, dtr of William CATE(S) of NC., (mother also b. NC), m. Hamilton Co., TN 21 Aug 1852. Daniel served in Union Army, 3rd TN Cav., Co. G. Daniel was a pow held at Cawhaba Prison, AL. Was released 6 months later, nearly blind. Never fully recovered from illnesses due to exposure and deprivation while imprisoned. Family relocated to Cumberland Co., KY after Civil War. Sophia was possibly full or part Cherokee. Children were Williamette, John, Robert F., Daniel, unknown baby boy, Thomas Mack, Abija(Bige), Martha and James H. Any and all leads appreciated.

Hello, I came across your site and I am hoping that perhaps you may have information. I am looking for Earl F. MANN who served in England during WW11. He was alive in 1945. I believe he was from Chattanooga and was born around 1917-1919. He was a very good friend of Paddy McCORMACK, who was Irish. I have very little other information, his parents were both still alive during this time and he had at least one other sibling. May have been of German extraction. Any possible help in how to find more about this person would be wonderful. Thank you.

Searching for information regarding Earnest BELL (born around 1913/1914). Parents were: Ernest & Lillie BELL from Kentucky. Brothers were John Francis BELL (born ~1916) and Robert E. BELL (born ~1916). Earnest worked for the Crane Company in Chattanooga. Any information regarding this branch of the BELL family tree is much appreciated! Thanks!
