DONALDSON

Devik Lansing Sat Apr 3 18:10:03 2004
I'm looking for information on a marriage between George A DONALDSON and a woman named Alice. The marriage would have taken place around 1905-1910. By 1915 they apparently had 5 children.

George was listed in a bigamy trial in Indiana in 1915. This marriage was used as evidence to convict him. I'm trying to determine if this is the same man who married my great-Grandmother 15 years later.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...even if it to point me to a place I can send to for more information.
Thanks!

FOUST - THOMAS

Jami Weaver Fri Apr 9 10:56:36 2004
I am looking for any info on my 3x grandparents. They are:
William Henderson or Henry Thomas THOMAS - Born: 11/05/1823 in Tennessee - Died: 03/31/1908 in Washington County Arkansas Married 09/17/1852, I believe in Hamilton County
Sarah Rebecca FOUST (daughter of John FOUST and Matilda HAWLEY) - Born: 12/27/1833, in Sullivan County Tennessee - Died: 07/13/1881 in Washington County, Arkansas

I have found in the Early Hamilton County Tennessee Marriages a marriage of William Henderson THOMAS to Sarah R. FOUST on 09/16/1852. How do I get a copy of their marriage license or record of it?

I have traced the John FOUST family to Hamilton County Tennessee around 1840. Before that they were living in Sullivan County Tennessee. I cannot find anything on my ggggrandfather William Henry THOMAS and really need to find him. I have hit a brick wall with him.

My family oral history tells me that William Henry THOMAS was a Civil War Veteran CSA (Confederate). I am trying to especially find him because I can get my daughter a college scholarship if I can prove our lineage and prove he was in the civil war.
Please contact me at jweaver@totelcsi.net
Thank you all in advance for your time and help.
Sincerely,
Jami A. Weaver

CROWDER

NO EMAIL ADDRESS GIVEN! Fri Apr 30 16:32:21 2004
There is a William CROWDER who was probably the father of the Roane Co, TN CROWDERs. He was in the 1830 census for Roane Co, TN and the 1840 and 1850 census records for Hamilton Co, TN. In 1850 he was age 70, with Eliza, 37, Samuel, 9, Hugh, 4, and John, 2. He would have been born abt. 1780 in NC. He is not listed in the 1860 census. He was married to Nancy McKINNEY / McKINNISH (b. abt. 1785). The other CROWDERs were Daniel (b. 15-04-1804, NC, d. 30-08-1854), m. 17-02-1829, Roane Co, TN, Mary Ann BUCHANAN (b.. 01-06-1812, d. 15-03-1882); John Crowder (b. 08-02-1808, NC, d. 04-04-1888, Roane Co, TN), m. 05-01-1833, Knox Co, TN, Jane D. MONGER (b. 17-09-1811, d. 29-03-1874, Roane Co, TN); and Anderson Hobbs CROWDER (b. abt. 1813, NC, d. 04-11-1877, Roane Co, TN), m. 24-12-1834, Blount Co, TN, Ann KOUNSE (b. 24-10-1814, d. 21-08-1890, Roane Co, TN). Will E. Parham, a noted East Tennessee researcher, says that William was the father of these other CROWDER men.

Court records in Roane Co, TN list a William CROWDER active from 1817 to abt. 1833. He bought property in Roane Co, TN in 1818. One record in 1822 says that "Daniel McKINNEY, a resident of Roane Co, now a citizen of parts unknown, was due a judgement and William CROWDER son-in-law was to collect." William CROWDER probably moved to Hamilton Co, TN abt. 1834. Goodspeed's History of James Co, TN (near Hamilton Co, TN) says, "William CROWDER, at a little later date (later than 1833 - 1834) settled about one-half mile north of Ooltewah . . ." He sold land in Roane Co, TN on 15-12-1835 to Anderson H. CROWDER. I have not been able to locate a place of death for William.

One researcher says he might have been a son of a Dr. William CROWDER who was born in Virginia.

There is supposed to be a William CROWDER in the 1800 census for Montgomery Co, NC. There is a William CROWDER in the 1810 census for Montgomery Co, NC. Daniel CROWDER married a BUCHANAN. There are supposed to be many BUCHANANs listed in the Montgomery Co, NC census. Where did Anderson Hobbs CROWDER get his middle name? There are supposed to be a long list of HOBBS in the same census.

Does anyone have info on this William CROWDER from Montgomery Co, NC? Do you know who his father might have been? Thanks.
Bob

COOK

Susie Cook Tune Thu May 6 18:28:48 2004
I, along with a couple of others in the COOK line, have hit a brick wall. We're trying to search for William COOK. He was my great-great-grandfather. Here is what I have on him.

He was born perhaps in TN or SC. His wife's name was Katherine (possibly Catherine?) I don't have a birthday or anything like that, but I do have some of his children's b-days and such. This family lived in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN for many years. William Cook was murdered by marauders during the Civil War in AR or MO. His body was never found. Here are his three boys:
William Jasper COOK, b. 11/24/1835 in Chattanooga, TN.
Thomas Jefferson COOK, b. 12/24/1833 in Chattanooga, TN.
Samuel Doak COOK (my great-grandfather), b. 5/5/1844 in Chattanooga, TN.
Helen (COOK) BELLAH (married a county judge in Marble, Falls, TX.

Here is part of my family story from records.
The three COOK brothers moved to Texas before the Civil War, while William COOK moved to AR or MO to avoid the effects of war. After no success there, he sold the farm and was preparing to move back to TN (sent his wife and daughter on ahead), when he was attacked by marauders, perhaps Jayhawkers, looking for money from the sale of his property. Since he had sent the money along with his wife, he could not satisfy their demands and they took him off and killed him. His sons, having come home to help the family move, attempted to locate him and the maurauders with no success. Samuel Doak (Doc) COOK told the story in latter years of having hunted down the villains and lynched them. His father's body was never recovered.

This was from the oral history of the family with many details supplied by Leon COOK.

So I need some help with this. I've looked at the 1860 census and couldn't find them. But I'm lost on where to look, and I'm basically kind of new at this anyway.

Do you have any ideas? Like I said, we're hitting a brick wall and want to find William COOK's ancestors.
Thanks,
Susie Cook Tune

My greatgrandfather lived in the Chattanooga mountains most of that time he was growing up. His name was Prince Henry SPEARS. His father's name was Prince William also known as Willie. His mother was Cherokee and her name was Rose Maria LUNDLEY. He was born Nov. 5th, 1906 and died in Jan. 1998. Right before he died he told me his mother's name before that no one knew her name. SHOEMAKER / SHOEMAKE / SHEWMAKE / SHUMOCK

Andra Jacoby Sun Jun 6 06:35:27 2004
I am trying to find out info on my g-grandfather, Andrew Jack SHOEMAKER (changed from SHOEMAKE / SHEWMAKE or SHUMOCK) born in Tennessee in May 1860 and a Cherokee. He was in Hopkins County TX in Oct 1886 when he married my g-grandmother, Frances Fannie Eudora RIPPY. They had five children; Mary Melissa (Mellie), William Noah Elmer, John Bascom, Eva Mae or Maud (born & died in infancy in Polk Co ARK 1900) and my grandmother, Era Andrew. I have them in Polk County ARK on the 1900 census, but do know they went back to Hopkins County TX since my grandmother was born there in 1902. He left Fannie either before or after Era was born in 1902 (she re-married to Geo. BENEDICT in Lamar Co TX in 1903) We believe he went to Oklahoma but not sure. His parents came and told about some kind of trouble in OK. They left and then shortly after so did he. I need to find out his birth info or anything about his family.
