  • The kindest thing that you are anyone can do for people researching in Greene Co. TN is to transcribe documents that are in the Tennessee Library which many can not afford to rent, even if they had the equipment to run the items on. I grew up in Holston Orphanage in Greeneville, Greene Co. TN and have been researching in Greene Co. since about 2000. I live in Illinois and visited the Cox Genealogy Library once. The items on your web site have been helpful but I am looking for my great grandfather who was there before 1800. I have some data but not enough. He died in 1814-16 and left a will and land. I don’t know where he was before 1786 when he signed a Petition re Washington, Greene and Sullivan Counties, and his name was spelled John Runnals and was later changed to Reynels or Reynolds. He was Scotch Irish and fought in the Rev. War. and the Lord Dunmore War where he met John Malone who also came to Greene Co. and their children intermarried. I don’t know if John was born in Ireland or Scotland or the U.S., or where he married, and if he had one or two wives.

Hi Dorothy – If you haven’t already done so, you should visit our Queries & Mailing Lists page and try posting your message on one of the lists. You will have a better chance of someone seeing it there.

Hopefully one of our readers who lives in TN will take you up on your request for document transcriptions!
