Goodspeed's History states: "While no companies went from Giles County into the war of 1812 a large number of her citizens joined companies that went out from neighboring counties, among whom were Lester MORRIS, George EVERLY, Charles BUFORD, James PATTESON, Sol. E. R. ROSE, Wm.KIRLEY, Maj. HURLSTON, Wm. MCDONALD, Wm. KYLE, Col. CLEVELAND, John CLARK, Nelson PATTESON, John PHILLIPS, Thomas SMITH, Dr. Gilbert D. TAYLOR, Charles C. ABERNATHY, Wm. K. GORDON, and many others whose names could not be secured. Dr. TAYLOR served on Gen. JACKSON's medical staff."

RITCHEY, Thomas & Richard T., Privates; Col. John Brown's Regiment, Capt. John Trimble's East Tennessee Mounted Gunman Company

Thomas RICHEY, b 1761, died at Ft. Williams, April 12, 1814, of wounds recieved at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend where he is buried. He married four times: Rebecca KENNEDY, Rosanna TRIMBLE,Jenney GREENAWAY, Elizabeth BRITTAIN. Richard Trimble RITCHEY, also in this company, was his son by Rosanna TRIMBLE. SHANNON, Robert, Corporal; 2 Reg't Mounted Gunmen (Cannon's), West Tennessee Volunteers. (War of 1812)

Affidivate: I certify that Robt. SHANNON served a tour of duty in my company of mounted gummenn in the service of the United States against the hostile Creek Indians commencing the 24th Sept, 1813 and was wounded on the 3rd November following and permitted to return home.

This same book lists the following members of this Shannon family as joining this church: Alexander 1849, Eleanor 1850, James 1850, W. N., 1850, and William 1849.")
